The doctrine of original sin, that is, all are born in sin, is the biggest absurdity in the Abrahamic religions. By the very act of being born, you are thus a criminal and must atone for this heinous transgression of existing in a fallen state - or someone or some thing must atone for you for your (the) criminal act of being born in such a lowly, detestable state. A total absurdity. It is only outweighed by its preposterousness.
I refuse the guilt trip and the need for saviors under such pretended offenses. None of us are perfect in that none of us are without blemish, having never committed acts that were harmful to others or in some way defrauded another, but those are transgressions that were done by acts of which we had a thinking knowledge of right and wrong, not the mere event of being born.
If there is a Deity that loves and cares for my soul, then let that alone be enough to fulfill any requirements that I am loved by the Deity with no pre existing conditions attached, and I don't have prove myself worthy enough to merit the love of the Deity. Either the Deity loves me for who, how, and what I am or it does not, for if it formulated my being, then how can I be found guilty of its own design? Can the pot say to the potter "Why hast thou made me thus?"
I have hope that there is more to the purpose of my existence than the mere procreation of my species and then simply death, but as for the supposition of a Deity that requires me to accept a fallen state, and that I must become "unfallen" and prove my worthiness when, in fact, I was created by the Deity, then it is not my event of birth that manifested in me the flaws of my existence, but the Deity itself, for I am by definition a product of its own design.

Martin Luther didn't invent a whole new religion. He adapted the existing one. Maybe the original creators of Christianity did the same with Greco-Roman beliefs. Perhaps religions don't necessarily appear out of nowhere but evolve with changes in the political and social environment. I find it fascinating how utterly different American Southern Baptists (for example) are from the Russian or Greek Orthodox churches but they are all essentially Christian. Their diverging histories have meant they have evolved into extremely different animals.
