Thanks to you. Now I'm looking for vintage cosmetic cases in Korea! :) I am very interested in zero waste movement, so it's really helpful for me to know this new info!

The relief that always floods through me when a vintage piece comes back negative for lead is unmatched.

I'm always sooo curious about whether old things contain lead. If you have others that you don't mind staining, I'd love to see more lead tests! But it's ok if they're expensive or if you don't have any more chipped ones. 😊

I had a gorgeous vintage bedframe for about 2 years or so, it was painted white and chipping so it looked so rustic and vintage! But one day it dawned on me that the paint could have lead... sure enough I tested it and the swab was pink! I was inhaling chipping lead paint for years without even thinking about it!

I love videos with that lead check thing, I'm not usually one for satisfying videos but I just love the crunch of the lead check

I didn’t even know that lead tests existed until this video. This was actually super helpful!

Those lead checks only rest for high amounts of lead I think it’s 600ppm. No amount of lead is non toxic. So there could still be lead in it.

It would be in the solder of the joints if not in the paint. Also lead was used in cosmetics, but I don't know when that stopped being a thing.

I’m…genuinely tempted to get something like this for my teacups. See, for the gold on tea cups, it’s possible lead was used in the process which, in a tea cup, might mean consuming a bit. Now, in that note, modern ones will not have that issue. It’s antique ones that do. And compounding that, many manufacturers of these cups switch away from using lead for their gold details at vastly different times, something like over 50 or so years (give or take). That’s a very long expanse of time and there is a LOT of tea cups out there so just trying to look up a specific tea cup and it’s manufacturer can be difficult. Also adding to the issue is that some teacups simply did not come with a mark for whatever reason (for Japanese ones this is because it was, I’m told, considered rude to add one’s own mark to though that has definitely changed in modern times). Anyway! I am thinking finding a reliable way of trying to tell which cups need be decoration only and which can still be allowed usage. This was a decent idea I think.

Lead paint normally not on things like that. It is normal on walls and floors and ceilings and outside paint.

Lead cant be inhaled unless you inhale the paint chip (if there was lead in the paint that is).

My mother is a master enamel artist, she taught it for decades and sells her work and is now teaching me. She uses leaded enamel even to this day on almost everything she does. Once the glass is fired then there is no problem and it can't hurt you, unless u eat it. So if u have something old that is enameled, and there is lead in the glass, don't freaking worry. It won't harm u at all. Just don't eat off of it. For food wear she uses unleaded cuz if someone puts an acidic food in it and eats off it then it could possibly, maybe, very slight chance of being hurt over a long time. But for things like what u have, don't trip. Also, u said it is chipping. if it's paint then repaint it but if the enamel is chipping, take it to a professional and have them repair it. Don't ruin the item by slapping a coat of paint over the glass. But if u can't afford to do that, they make something called 'cold enamel' which is basically a type of acrylic paint and is good for repairing hairline cracks or very small chips. Cool item u have there btw.

Wow! Is there a product to test home wall paint? I have a gorgeous house built late 40s, we are getting painters again as it’s been a few years but some corners with chips you can see the years of layers and I’d imagine it’s just paint layers as opposed to properly stripping.

But is there lead in the actual pigments? Specially lipstick, since you kinda are eating it.

Knowing 3M the irony is that stick probably had some kind of super harmful chemical in it hahahah

Thank you so much! For showing how easy it is to test for lead, YOU DON'T NEED TO STRESS if YOU'VE GOT A TEST 😊🥹

Have you found one that does contain lead yet? Just curious!
