How Much Axle Wrap Does A Stock 3rd Gen Tacoma Get

Here is my response to RobMotive's video. I was curious how much my drivetrain moved, seeing how mine is a stock 3rd get Tacoma. My Truck is also a manual so that might make a difference as I could probably shift harder than the automatics.

It is interesting to see that both our vehicles have a fair amount of axle wrap. I am not sure who has more, what do you think?

i never looked at my axle wrap ive been wanting to do a traction bar for driveshaft protection, now im 100% gonna figure a way to make that happen, had no idea its that bad and im on the 63" leaves so id imagine worse being so long. thank you great vid.

When I originally SAS'd I used 4" lift blocks with my worn out stock rear leafs. The axle wrap was bad, and with the supercharger I could feel it BAD. And people kept saying my truck looked like I broke it every time I took off with power because the axle was pushed so far. Eventually switched to OME springs and a 2" block, and could not notice any axle wrap at all. Now I've changed it up some more, lowered my SAS by moving the hanger into the frame, and got low enough to eliminate the rear block entirely!

I did not have a clue about axle wrap. Your video was a very good introduction, thanks.

Thats is an excellent video! Just what I was looking to see from a stock/unlifted Tacoma. After watching, I don't see a heck of a lot of difference between yours and mine. I am still going to add the drop kit to level out the assembly a bit, but I'm not sure it's really necessary. Thanks for posting the vid..awesome job!

This is why I personally prefer coil spring and control arm instead of leaf springs. The axle is more firmly attached to the frame still have some articulation

Yeah this is why many makes go with axle under vs axle over

So is a 1.5 aal better than a 1.5 spacer . And will the aal help stiffen up the springs and calm some of the wrap

I actually thought of mounting a GoPro to see whats causing a "thump" sound underneath when I come to a stop. Did you have this issue?

What if i put longer shackles will that help or make it worse?

do stock trucks get wrap? yes. do blocks make it worse? yes. do traction bars help? if done correctly... yes. should you use blocks for lift? only if it is a show truck. they are a retched throwback to the early 80s (if not earlier)

axle wrap caused leaf springs not work properly.... sometimes softer ... sometimes harder...

My 3rd gen has the shakes bad at a stop with the brakes on. I think it’s the driveline

Ok so in emergency stopping or anywhere near it my 2nd gen if twisting the driveline bad. I can't stand this problem.

Trac bars also help braking in OH shit type senario.

It's adding a shitload of wrap. It's just making it hard to drive.
