Aidan O'Brien's THE LION IN WINTER creates big impression on debut at the Curragh 👀

The Lion In Winter surprised his better-fancied stablemate Ides Of March to win the Juddmonte Chaldean Irish EBF (C&G) Maiden.

Aidan O’Brien’s pair were sent off at odds of 11-2 and 5-4 favourite respectively, with Ryan Moore opting to ride the market leader.

However, it was The Lion In Winter who proved strongest over the seven-furlong trip, sweeping through late on to win by two and a quarter lengths from Currawood, with Ides Of March a further length back in third.

The Lion In Winter is a 25-1 shot with Coral for both the 2000 Guineas and Derby next year and O’Brien has no concerns about a longer distance.

The 1st son of Sea the Stars I ever saw Coolmore own. Obviously something special about it. Like the way he went from 3 lengths down to 2 up in last furlong. Vertem Futurity Stakes, or Dewhurst? Grand Criterium? Definite Derby 2025 prospect. 10/10.

This was very very impressive! Sea the stars gives some beautys, and i think this is one.

He looks the part, and he couldn't have made a much better start. He is bred to want a good deal further so hopefully, one more run at 2, a classic trial and then the Derby. In a season where the 2yo fillies have been the stars so far, not surprised he has been quoted as the early Derby favourite.

Yet another supposed stable second string wins a maiden in Ireland, pity they arent 20-1 like they used to be but still great odds for backing as they seem to win more often than not in maidens.

bred for further without a doubt, got the epsom derby all over it, to look at it was a big baby so next year wow im on at 20/1 to do that in a few seconds ears pricked and hard to pull up and over looked by Ryan, fill your boots because when he wins its next race you will be lucky to get 3/1 bring on 2025
