So when I was 17, I finally managed to scrape together enough cash to buy a pretty decent stereo/Hi-Fi system with turntable, cassette player, a receiver that could pump out 150W and a pair of speakers that could handle up to 300W. I'm not kidding when I say that the very first song I heard on that stereo was Styx' "Come Sail Away" and I was BLOWN AWAY. I just sat down on my bed literally stunned by the sumptuous aural beauty of a new world that opened up before my very eyes....and ears. To this day, at age 60, when I hear this song, I am filled with the same sense of marvel and awe as on the Christmas semester break in 1977.

Ninth grade, 14 years old, stuck in a boarding school, this song and album helped me escape my loneliness, I was a loner at school, still am, but music is my salvation and friend

In 1977 I was in high school and remember hearing Come Sail Away the 1st time feeling like the world had so much to offer and it did! If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 90's with all the golden classic cars, movies, music & concerts from the greatest pop culture years ever, YOU were very blessed!

Every time I hear that piano play my heart melts, because it reminds me of a time long since passed, a time we cannot return to...

My first concert ever, Grand Illusion tour. 12/2/1977, Jacksonville (FL) Coliseum. 16 years old, with a bunch of buddies. Life was good

In the kitchen of a Bennigan's on Long Island in 1990 was a beautiful bargirl and myself.  Both of us aspiring singers in our 20s, both of us having grown up on music like this.  The restaurant wasn't very busy and this song came on the radio.  We harmonized this chorus perfectly.  Normally, I'd have been able to take either line.  But I knew that the pretty blonde could do the harmony better.  It was an exciting moment.  Sweetie, if by chance you read this post, please know that I think of that moment to this day.

I love this album so much, back in 1977, when I was 17, I taught myself to play Come Sail Away on the organ, but can't read music or know how to play an electronic organ. All done by listening to each and every note and then finding on keyboard. Also, had a 68 Camaro convertible at this time with 8-track player that 1 day decided to eat my grand illusion 8-track. I snatched it out of the player, and said tape started blowing in the wind. Slowed down from driving about 45 to 20's trying to grab tape and get to put in floorboard. Took tape home, almost all had unwound. Spent 3 hours trying to untangle tape, ended up having to only make 1 splice, and had my fav tape back, good rock on my brothers and sisters, love seeing current generations like same music, may it live on forever
