"... still out there. Waiting to confuse and frustrate." An apt description. For many things. 👍

theyre not necessarily used for "nothing" the extra pins can be used to power a midi device. so you can send power over those two extra pins. which is what i did when i built a version of a zendrum using a megadrum board. I added a power brick that added 9v power over the extra two pins, and so the whole thing just needs a midi cable plugged into it to run. and you can get locking midi connectors

Let's not forget older devices with completely different implementation and connectors, check those schematics!

Wait... why arnt we using this thing as a USB port or data port now? It’s got 5 pins, it would by sturdy since it’s a circular shape, and it wouldn’t slide out of the socket as easily. I know that sounds stupid but legit we could have used that connector as a usb instead of the less sturdy and easy to break connectors we have now. Also yes I know that the pins are a little easier to Jack up in this connector than regular usb but I’m just saying.

I think Arturia still uses the B pinout even in current devices. Novation changed from one pinout to another mid model life.

I’ve never used a board with trrs only a standard 5 din. Or usb-B.

Who makes a board with this style connector?
