Ex-Trump attorney censured after admitting election statements were false

Jenna Ellis was censured by a disciplinary judge in Colorado Wednesday, in the latest effort to hold accountable attorneys who boosted former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election reversal gambits.
Ellis signed a stipulation stating that several comments she made about the 2020 election violated professional ethics rules barring reckless, knowing or intentional misrepresentations by attorneys, according to documents posted by Colorado’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. As part of the stipulation, Ellis agrees to pay $224.
Among the false statements highlighted in the stipulation were comments by Ellis on social media and in TV appearances claiming that the Trump campaign had evidence the election was “stolen.” #andersoncooper #cnn #AC360

As a retired attorney and judge, I am dismayed that such a breach of ethics is met with the proverbial slap on the pinkie. In most jurisdictions she would have been disbarred in a heartbeat.

What possible incentive is there in the judicial system for lawyers to meet even basic standards of ethics ? These disgraceful individuals will not be checked, but will continue to behave in corrupt manner, knowing that they can get away with it. Beware the future.

Censured is like getting sent to the principal's office for chewing gum in class and not having enough to share with everyone. Let the punishment fit the crime, in this case the crime is treason, knowingly aiding and abetting a client investigated for an an attempted hostile takeover of your country, the punishment for treason is death.
