As a second fanfic reader type, I like angst and characters being hurt only if they are being comforted after. I don’t like seeing my characters suffering. At the limit, I can love melodramatic or bittersweet endings but I generally prefer happy endings, especially if the characters were a lot hurt in the series, because I think they deserve to be happy (looking at FMA 2003 for the bittersweet one and FMAB for the happy one for example)

Okay but Hurt/Comfort is my fav, make me feel the characters pain and then have them be happy, its like the only thing I read! The contrast of being sad for them first before they become okay is so much more fulfilling to me, like an actual book with conflict and resolution and a happy ending. ❤

Im mostly a wholesome reader, but if i had to describe my taste, i would be a comfort, fix-it, light angst, angst with a happy ending, it gets worse before it gets better, hurt/comfort reader.
