A message to polyamorous people. If any of you read comments that are hateful or misinformed about polyamory and you don't receive much if any support from friends or family, then keep the following things in mind: You are not alone. There's a lot of bigotry in the world, but remember that hateful people aren't truthful, are toxic, and are worthy of being ignored. You are valid. You belong here on this earth. You are loved by someone and supported by many. It's okay to love the way you love. It's okay to be yourself.

And in practice polygamy was a harmful mysoginistic practice where one man married multiple women and the women were not allowed to marry other men, creating inequality for both men and women.

Yup, that's why polyamory is an orientation while polygamy is a structure.

A man forcing two children to marry him is non-consensual polygamy.

Three people agreeing to being in a relationship together or getting married together is regular polygamy.

A married couple dating a third person is also polygamy.

Loving multiple people at the same time and not being able to choose between them is polyamory.

and poly-gamy doesn't nessicarily mean all parties love eachother or consent to it. just in general not a word i would ever see using to describe my relationship and any possible future ones either. i think polygamy and think "children wives".

whereas i think polyamory and i think of everyone accidentally ordering too much pizza. middle spoon. and multiple buckets of popcorn for a big movie night under warm blankets. many kind words and kisses. and finding harmony together, having a lot of loves is difficult sometimes. but if it ultimately has everyone involved happy, it's worth it.
