Running On Empty 🎤Lyrics:

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In '65, I was 17 and running up 101
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on

Running on, running on empty
Running on, running blind
Running on, running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In '69, I was 21 and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned on to the road I'm on

Running on, running on empty
Running on, running blind
Running on, running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
Look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running, too

Running on, running on empty
Running on, running blind
Running on, running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Honey, you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind
(Running on)
You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
(Running blind)
Running into the sun but I'm running behind

I follow 15 or more guitar teachers and you are by far the best of them all, in particular because of how you spell out the counting and strum strokes. I am so excited to learn this song from you and thank you for taking the time to put this lesson on the web for the world to learn from. You're the best!

Thanks, John. Your lesson taught me how to play one of my favorite songs! You are an excellent instructor.

I love Jackson. I’ve been listening to him a lot lately. Reminds me of my youth and he looks like I do these days since we’re the same age. I’ve got a tele that I’ll be covering this lesson with.

John's one of my favorite music teacher. His style is so relaxed, well arranged, so well explained every lesson. Can't believe all these for free. Thanks for sharing your talent John! All Love!!

Thanks for showing me this version. I originally learned to play it in open G tuning, but my voice range is really limited, and I just can't sing all of it in that key. I'm looking forward to trying out an acoustic version, and perhaps using my looper to do a little soloing over it. Thanks Again!

Hey Jon, could you do a lesson on Keb Mo? I just saw him at the Hollywood Bowl this last week and he killed it.

Thank you for the lesson. When you do a lesson of great song "asking too much of you" Marshall Tucker Band?

nice job. Isn't this played in Open Tuning and you just transposed it to be simple?

Right....now show us without the looping, monster reverb & delay. Sing along with an accoustic

My major impediment to playing is practicing sitting down rather than standing UP. And at open Jams the Rule should be (3) songs whether you are great or suck. So waiting for these selfish armatures to take a 4th bow....I hardly ever have a chance to play with the band. Secondly, play with a drum Machine or a Metronome if you don't have a looper.
