voice wasn’t as firm as she
wanted it to be.

Y/n stared at the tablet in
her lap.

The contract details blurred
under her gaze, not because
they were complex—but
because he was too close.

H/n sat beside her, no
longer keeping the respectable
distance he usually did.

His knee brushed against
hers, a brief contact that sent
an uncomfortable awareness
through her. The space
between them had shrunk
—dangerously so.

She shifted slightly, but it
only made things worse.

He leaned in, resting one arm
on the back of the couch,
caging her in without touching
her.

His presence alone was
suffocating.

Y/n felt the warmth of his
body against her side, his
crisp white shirt stretched
over broad shoulders as he
peered at the tablet screen.

“You’re holding it too low, ”
he murmured, his voice
quieter now, close to her
ear.

She swallowed hard but
didn’t move.

Without warning, his hand
reached out, sliding over
hers as he adjusted the angle
of the tablet.

His fingers, cool against her
skin, lingered just a second too
long before retreating.

“Tch, ” he exhaled. “You’re
tense.”

No kidding.

Y/n forced herself to focus
on the contract, but his
proximity was overwhelming.

The way his sharp eyes
flicked to her profile.

The way his breath skimmed
just near her temple as he
spoke.

She turned her head slightly,
only to realize how close
their faces had become.

moved even slightly forward—

Y/n cleared her throat and
shifted away, breaking the
invisible tension.

“I understand the contract, ”
she said, her voice steadier
than she felt.

He leaned back finally,
studying her with that
unreadable gaze.

Then, as if nothing had just
happened, he picked up his
whiskey glass and took a
slow sip.

“Good.” His voice was calm,
unaffected. “Then let’s hope
you don’t get distracted
tomorrow.”

Y/n bit the inside of her
cheek.

She had a feeling he was
going to be the biggest
distraction of all.
