This is one of those games where I wish they’d go back and give it the Disco Elysium, full voice-over, treatment.

I personally love the ship combat because I absolutely hate it in games when the protagonist is the captain of an armed ship but they don't let you ever play the ship battles. It always leaves me feeling like my character is a passenger on the ship when they are supposed to be the ship's CO or owner operator depending on the ship's size and the protagonist's role in the setting. I remember being worried when I first heard about this game because some of the early videos I saw talking about it didn't show the ship combat.

Plus I'm a fan of Frigates in general (if a setting has Frigates there's an over ninety percent chance my favorite ship or ship class will be one) so I was very happy when I found out our primary ship in the game is a Frigate I was honestly expecting a Cruiser. I wish I could figure out how to change my Frigate's escort ship though because I got a Viper class Missile Destroyer aka my least favorite Destroyer class and least favorite space warship in the setting.

Its still a nice review.

5:00 No. There are med kits, which can cure injuries. Though they appear somewhen in second act.
6:05 Agree. On the one hand, ability to significantly increase damage or number of your attack(s) is great, but on the other hand, need to press three-four or even more skills on each character each turn is frustrating. At least closer to the end.

I have tried a few review videos for this game and learned very little, this review actually makes me want to go and buy it! Thank you.

Disclaimer, I'm a pretty hardcore 40k fan, but I haven't had a game engross me as much as this one in almost a decade. Is it overcomplicated in its progression system? A little in my opinion. But that doesn't change the fact that I bought this game on a friday afternoon, it was ready to play by early evening, and by late sunday evening, I had 30 hours in game. Over roughly 48 hours, I had clocked nearly 30 hours in the game because it just immersed me so completely.

Thank you so much for including the save system options in the review. I am time restricted when it comes to gaming and some of these tactical games have battles that take forever. Knowing if I can save mid battle usually is the deciding factor if I purchase a game or not.

Good review, but I disagree about the conclusion. I recommend people give it 6+ months of patches before it is worth full price. Get it on sale otherwise.

I personally had a lot of fun with the ship combat. Although I played on daring difficulty, not hard, and I admit it was difficult until I got a second ship that helped to draw fire and some upgrades. I also thought the amount of choice we got while character building was awesome, not a negative. I acually didn't like the early game because I thought combat was a little vanilla but as I leveled up I and got more choice and the builds started to play off each other I really started to enjoy the combat. Even if yeah, there was some balance issues.

Well worth it. Great sci fi CRPGs are so rare.

If or when you feel another itch for Warhammer 40K and want some more interesting ship combat. Battle Fleet Gothic Armada 2 might be a good picl.
There are campaigns for various races instead of only the Imperial Navy like in the first game. The fish heads (Tau) or toasters (Necron) might be a good fit for you. That's just a guess though, there are other options.
I wonder if the old Chaos Gate game would be of interest but that's kind of a gamble. It's like the early X-COM games.

I liked the game but faced constant bugs. Most were small graphical bugs or game mechanics not triggering when they're supposed to. However in the third act I ran into a save game breaking bug which blocked my progress, I took a break from the game and came back after a week to load a save from a few hours earlier, then made it through the rest of the game. It does seem that the worst of the bugs occur if you go off the main story choices; i refused to take a xenos scum in my party and it caused bugs later.

reviews only usually feel this concise while watching on 1.25x speed, & thanks for not having a random sponsor I had to skip through. 10/10

Yes.
And about Ship Combat: as soon as possible replace torps with prow long range lance guns.

We live in such a crazy world now that one needs to make a disclaimer that they are not on the developer's payroll when realising a review...

As of 7/2024 this game is great! Production quality is lower than BG3 yes, but the story is better or just as good.
