This was my first ever video so I didn't explain myself as clearly as I'd of liked to.

Here's me touching more on this topic:

The reason why traditional benders are able to sacrifice their speed is because they can throw powerful attacks, while a pro bender might be throwing small rocks really fast, a traditional bender can just demolish, freeze, or incinerate they entire battlefield. But you're definitely right, no side is better, it just depends on the location if its urban, yeah you might wanna limit your attacks to minimize damage, if its in an open field, then u can go all out. Great video!

"It's quicker to throw a one-two than a spinning tae kwon do kick that's not even going to land"
As someone who trained in tae kwon do back then, I agree.

Korra vs Aang in spinning marbles sounds fun to watch

The "area damage" explanation is actually very good. Imagine having to pay for a whole city block you burned or destroyed. In atla most places were open fields with no real repercusions.

A lot of the changes brought from pro bending are defenitely from the rules imposed one the game. We see a lot of rules designed to kinda prevent people from having single shots that are ultra powerful, so people need to resort to bending quicker

Zaheer was a master of the Martial Arts before he became an air bender, it's why he was able to adapt to it so quickly was because of what he already knew and applied it to air bending.

I remember 1 episode when mako was sitting in the car with the whole team and then he casually shoots a lightning while hanging out the window like it's nothing, when back in the last air bender, lightning was extremely hard to bend

An interesting review, this changes in bending style reminds me how armies evolved after Industrial Revolution. Massive infantry formations, organized cavalry charging as blocks, overwhelming artilery barrages made way for small platoons of infantryman, loose formations of tanks and mobile artilery that used for set targets. Also i think Dai-Li member was first to understand how traditional bending in close quarters were inefficent and they innovated a new bending style. They are very different to other Earthbenders, instead of holding ground in a traditional way they are slick almost as air benders.

I like to believe that Air Bending is like Capoeira in the way that it's all about dancing around your opponent and it flows.

It always bugged me how the fights in Korra was different to how the fights was for aang then I realized that 70 years have passed

There's definitely some scenes in Korra where the bending styles are extremely similar to TLA. I think it's pretty interesting how something like bending was modernized tho

I love how you're not just trash talking on the bending in tlok and you are really analyzing this. Also i wanna remind people that we do see a lot of tradisional bending in tlok. For some reason everyone is so stuck up on pro-bending and forgets about Unalaq, kya, tenzin. I also admire that in tlok everyone has their own bending style. You can actually tell lin and sue yin apart when they're fighting, also tonraq, kuvira, ming hua etc.

I agree that it's changed to be more like MMA & boxing but it changes so much about the fundamentals of bending. Korra is always trying to fight, and this gets her (and people in our world) into a lot of trouble. Traditional bending for me is about spirit, and creativity, and understanding that earth bending can be a LOT more than just throwing rocks around at someone. They're manipulating elements, and when the fire nation saw it's bending as being a fighting tool they lost their way. This more modern style works well in a situation with rules, and does transfer to the street, but it means you're just thinking about striking and missing out on all the rest that it has to offer.

i side with traditional. im definitely biased though, i love the techniques found in traditional styles, and I also am a martial artist myself so I have gotten the chance to try these different styles myself

Great video! Only one thing in 0:24 : Airbending is largely inspired by Baguazhang not Wing tsun. Bagua is highly characterized by the circular movements within its forms.

I never really noticed these small details like how Korra keeps her same pro-bending style. Great video ;)

Okay. About a minute in. Thank you for not straight up attacking or showing bias for one series over the other. Both are great in their own ways, and different on purpose. Though I can at least admit that Morra could have been better if it werent for the ridiculous amount of executive meddling.
