i nearly scrambled my eggs watching this video !

- that's not a euphemism i was cooking eggs and was so engaged in the video i nearly exploded them.
thanks for sharing !

Great demonstration the explanation was decent too

Nice vid, but I kept wondering how Electroboom would do it!

if you use a graphit rod of a pencil instesd of a copper wire it will not stick to the rails

Very cool, I might suggest folding the edges of the cardboard base of the track slightly at an upward angle to further keep the copper conductor in place, either way, a great demonstration.

DUDE, never start a video with noise like that, you nearly killed me lmao

Ok. let me see if I understand this correctly. Dependent on the direction of current flow it will determine the direction the copper rod moves, rotates, in the case you present. Does the Lorentz force emanate from the center of the copper rod radially out or does the force emanate from the exterior surface, tangent to that surface causing it to roll? What I also find curious is that you can do the same setup as you have but remove all your magnets, that are under your surface and then attach two opposing magnets to either end of your rod, I used a steel rod and not copper and the rod will roll as yours does. What is different, in my setup, is that the magnets are moving with the magnetized rod and not through the stationary permanent magnetic field as in your setup. In my setup the magnets or the rod is not moving relative to each other and yet there is a Lorentz force realized. Can you explain how this is happening.

I think it could do with a bit of mass, just to keep it moving. It seemed to get stuck at the boundary between the magnets, because it lacked momentum.

Hey LS, were you able to open the .zip file with the new intro and outro? Or do you need me to send it to you differently?

try graphite rod and try putting oil on the rails

Interesting stuff, thanks.
Since some guy below said using a graphite from a pencil is good, they maybe a carbon rod say getting it from inside dead/drained C or D battery is even better?!

This is actually how rail guns work kids

He just keeps messing with that metal rod with sparks flying at 4amps... just won't stop till it melts... arghhh!! lol

It is not the Lorentz force that creates rotation or torque in an electric motor. That is just simply magnetic attraction and repulsion. The Lorentz force is not what people think it is. It is 90° out of phase with magnetic force. It is a polarized displacement of the dielectric field.

I am not buying the armature example, the coil is wrapped on a stator(armature), focusing the electromagnet, this in turn pulls and/or pushes from the permanent magnets, there maybe lorentz adding to it, but majority of the power I believe is not lorentz, in your rail experiment i agree.
