Magnetic Forces and the DC Electric Motor

preview_player
Показать описание
The forces on the wire segments of the current loop in an electric motor depends upon the geometry of the loop (relative to the magnetic field) as well as the direction of the current. This animation illustrates those forces and the role of the commutator in switching the current direction so that torque on the loop continues to keep the loop spinning. (Note the direction of each of the side forces is reversed. This error is corrected in the revised version of this animation)

Lorenzo De Biasi:  I use POVRay to create the frames of animation and virtualdub to create the animation from the image files.

Don’t electrons travel from the negative to the positive side of the battery?

what about the emf that is induced in the coil? it does not affect the overall principle?

Those Lorentz Forces on the outer (not relevant parts) of the loop are wrong arent they?
