In the original script the deacon alien had much MUCH more implied importance than just being some oddly placed Christian symbolism in the head room and a foreshadowing ending scene. In the script, the deacon is worshiped by the engineers because it’s blood (the stuff in the cup in the intro scene) gave the engineers the ability to seed life on other planets and become masters of genetic manipulation from studying the deacon’s blood. However after eons of using the blood of the deacon, the engineers were running short on it’s blood so they looked towards developing a synthetic version of this substance, which then led to them creating the black goo which in turn was used as a weapon since it was far too deadly to be used in their rituals. After Holloway ingested a little bit of the black goo and further transmitted it to Shaw through his infected sperm, and she gestating the trilobite, a second deacon was born after hundreds of millions of years since the last deacon was alive. This also adds to the whole “virgin birth of a holy figure/Jesus” bit that Ridley Scott heavily shoved into this movie along with every other religious imagery

0:49 The way the creature hisses and then starts to roar as its second jaw is reveal along with the music score send chills down my spine everytime

0:10 when the deacon uses the back of it's sharp head like a knife to cut it's way through. This is where the scene becomes so terrifying.

I thought he was pretty normal sized for a Xenomorph until I realized it's just a newborn.

Deacon Xenomorph, age 0, gave himself up to the authorities after the incident. he is now serving a life sentence.

It’s so sad David never saw his first creation, David thought the protomorph is his successful creation but he didn’t know it’s the deacon.

Was always disappointed we never saw this again

I met the creature designer (Neville Page), and while I saw the influences already, he continued to fascinate me with how true he stood to Giger, and gave his own flair to it. The deacon here has two traits that stand out; it’s skin texture is based on a horse placenta, and the ejecting mouth is goblin shark inspired (an animal that I adore, and immediately remembered when I saw this scene).

It’s an absolute tragedy that they essentially canned a direct sequel to this, and we got that crap fest that Alien Covenant was (a movie that even ruins its own Alien mythos).

It's actually a little sad when you think the creature is essentially doomed to die of either suffocation or starvation, even as horrible as it and the circumstance leading to it's birth were. It's like horror within horror.

the craziest thing here is that, in the sequel comic, around 100+ years later, the deacon had eventually mutated into a mountain. an actual organic-matter mountain.

the protagonists of the comics went inside, and eventually, realised that they are inside a living organism.

*Severely* Underrated and Underacknowledged movie that would be a uttermost masterpiece with the extended scenes
The lack of CGI is incredible within the movie

Deacon is truly a remarkable being. Queen wouldn't have come to be without him playing his part.

That is so terrifying and real. Incredible job.

The sound design was amazing, if only we could see him a little more.

I feel like the Trilobite only accelerated the spore for the Deacon to birth. I always believed that this sack 0:21 was a result from the trilobite. In my theory, the Deacon was already gestating in the Engineer, hence why it went to hypersleep for 2000 years after the accident.

I would have hated to be the person that ran into that.

Prometheus was so underrated to me, it was one of the first films I remember watching when I was younger and being blown away by the visuals. I’d never seen a movie like it before. The scene where they are using that galaxy map and it spreads throughout the entire room, this scene, ugh. So good.

I enjoy Prometheus, but I'd love it a lot more if it wasn't tied to the Alien franchise in any way. It set up some very interesting lore and world building, but then proceeds to burn not only it's own universe to the ground, but also the entire Alien franchise by making the two connected. If it was its own thing, it could've been close to a masterpiece.

Alien: Covenant, on the other hand, was by far the worst. It plays it's own hand in ruining the Alien mythos that we'd all come to love and be fascinated by. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worst than AVP: Requiem.

If they're still doing Alien 5, I hope it stamps out the soggy experience of Covenant and puts us back into a good spot in the Alien timeline.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this movie but I think this scene was directed spectacularly.
The dim flickering lights, the score, the way the camera pans with the engineer upside down which gives off a very uncanny vibe.
Also, the fact that the engineer is literally all alone in a dark room and is about to die in a few seconds next to that giant facehugger with no one to call for help and no chance to survive. He lays helplessly as the alien painfully squirms its way out of his chest, tainting the floor with his black blood and his internal organs.
Ridley Scott may not be a perfect writer but he sure is a great director!
