I definitely know the answer to this ancient puzzle | Chris & Jack

Whether you're a cryptographer solving ancient puzzles, cryptexes, and riddles straight out of the Da Vinci Code, or just somebody trying to finish an escape room with some friends, we've all experienced that moment when you've absolutely one hundred percent gotten the obviously correct answer but then the dumb thing doesn't open right cause someone made it bad and then it's like what's even the point then ya know.

We're Chris W. Smith and Jack De Sena (aka Chris & Jack). We've been friends for years and love making high-quality, high-concept sketch comedy. Chris was a Blue Man in Blue Man Group. As a voice actor, Jack played Sokka in Avatar the Last Airbender and Callum in the Dragon Prince. In 2016 we united to create this channel, confusingly titled “Chris & Jack”, which has served as a shared platform to write, produce, direct, edit, and star in our own stuff. We're releasing comedic sketches of all shapes and sizes twice a month. Sci-Fi, Heists, animation, movie tropes, absurdist bits, and plenty of fun new experiments. But above all else, friendship.

As an ancient historian myself, I actually know what happened here. The answer to the puzzle was originally Aurum but the maker forgot the answer and had to reset it. He put in gold but it wasn't long enough, as per the password requirements. So he had gold1 for a few years but forgot it again. He tried changing it to aurum but it said 'can't be the same as a previous password' so he tried gold2 but the requirements had now been changed again and needed a special character.
