Meet the Founder of Stoicism | ZENO OF CITIUM

Показать описание
Around 300 BC, Zeno of Citium founded the Stoic school of philosophy. He published a list of works on ethics, physics, logic, and other subjects, including his most famous work: Zeno’s Republic, which does sound quite similar to a dialogue authored by a philosopher named Plato.

I was dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, overthinking and honestly, your videos were not the first thing that I bumped into, but as soon as I discovered them, I have completely changed my perspective towards other people and life in general. They have motivated me to upgrade my library collection, so I picked up some books too, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius and I am really enjoying them.
High quality post, as always. Thank you! I only wish that more people were familiar with your channel, or at least with the wisdom of the stoics through the books. The world would have been a much better place.

Nothing in the world is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. If there is something you want to do, just make a start. This is what caused me to start my channel.

my favorite thing about your channel other than your content and voice is lack of forced sponsors

Really makes you think, what other potentially great works have been lost to time.

It is really a pity that all Zeno's work have gone.
Alexandria's fire was an unmeasurable tragedy for those who appreciate ancient knowledge.

Your calm tone is refreshing. I much prefer a calm explanations rather than exaggerated emphasis. Thanks for all the quality work.

It's good to know the roots of stoicism & to appreciate that Zeno's efforts were not in vain.
Those of us who have benefited from this ancient well of wisdom are grateful to him & all the other stoic pioneers that came before us.

I always knew I was a reasonable person thinking along virtuous lines, now confirmed after listening to this. Pity there are no relics of his writings. Heresay is not the same. Great little video. Thankyou.

I’ve been watching Einzel for over a year now, and his videos about Stoicism have really helped guide me through life. I am able to apply Stoic lessons to every part of my life, so while I am sometimes unhappy, I am never lost.

A video on Heraclitus would be great. He is my favorite pre-Socratic, and though little survives of him but fragments, you could write much of how his thought bears similarities to Eastern ontology and epistemology.

As someone who has practiced stoicism seriously for the past 5 years. The greatest lesson I learned, is that stoicism, although effective, is not necessary. Once you swallow the red pill of free will and realize you cannot derive an “ought” from an “is”. You come to peace with human limitations. You can achieve the same results without the effort. Stoicism is simply the most effective way, to mentally acrobat, our own mental shortcomings. I now love and respect it even more than I originally did. It’s an excellent remedy for the human condition. But I also argue that once you realize you have no free will, you also realize you are not actually making an effort to practice stoicism. It is but a single part of your journey to enlightenment.

... Thank you for making this video. The pictures are beautiful.... I was surprised and happy to learn that stoicism and Taoism have things in common, such as living in accordance with nature.
