Alexander: if i wasn't me, i would want to be Diogenes.
Diogenes replied: me too if i wasn't me, i would want to be Diogenes.

Only someone like Diogenes is truly free. The rest of us are servants to our obligations.

Alexander tries to test the diogenese by granting him anything. Rather than refusing Alexander and being ungrateful for his generosity, Diogenes asked for a simple request, which can be simply granted by anyone . Then, he tries to intimidate him . Cunningly diogenes made him think about his reputation as a good man if he killed or arrested diogense . That made alexander respect diogense .

So Diogenes defeated Alexander, not with might but with wisdom and humbleness....

Hail to the truth teller and to those who recognize them, for they are both few.

Theres a great lesson to learn from these two . Alexander died regreting wasting his life chasing wealth, power and fame, and he didnt spent it on what was important. Diogenes was free and had no care, took a dump in public, masrurbated in public, he is the embodiment of Not giving a F. The thing is, it is shameful to carry oneself like that, he was free but he had no one, he lived like a wild dog and no one wanted to be associated with him too much . The lesson is, live a balanced life, somewhere in between how these two lived . You have some power, money and you dont really care for what most people think, you work hard 4 or 5 days of the week and you spent the rest with your family and loved ones . You carry your self with decency, and are considerate of others, no one wants yo see you take a dump or masturbate in public .

Diogenes was such a chad. Man would literally walk around with a lamp during the day saying he was “looking for a man” and would publicly mock Plato basically calling Plato’s interpretation of Socrates a fanfic while loudly eating during Plato’s lectures.

Because Diogenes was content and Alexander the great wanted more. So which is under the greater pressures.

Diogenes began rummaging through a pile of bones. When Alexander the Great asked him what he was doing, Diogenes said, “I’m looking for the bones of your father, but I can’t discern them from the bones of a slave”
