Is the new Macbook good for architecture?
The computer itself, beautiful. The compatibility with architectural softwares, a little room for improvement. Nonetheless, I am totally hooked by the design of these products and will be keeping it. ^^

I'm sure you already have your opinions about this product, so I don't need to ask. 😂 I'll be making a follow-up video, where I talk about different softwares on M1. Coming soon, but be patient, as I want to use it for a while before making a review. Thanks ^^

I appreciate seeing more architects sharing on youtube and other creator platforms. Keep it up!

I’m an architecture student second year now, I’ve been using the newest MacBook Pro with the M1 chip for the whole of the second year and I want to say it’s been rather amazing, I’ve seen everyone around me using gamer laptops for their work, while I thought I missed out on many of the programs like rendering programs and revit, I discovered that downloading the program parallels has given me access to all those programs, it’s basically running windows in the background while I work on those programs that aren’t yet available on the MacBook Pro, not to mention that I could work on my Mac for 12 hours straight with 3 rhino files open, 2 photoshop, my WhatsApp and a bunch of little things, while the windows in the background is running and I’m using revit, all of that without needing to charge my laptop once, it’s extremely quite and peaceful to work with compared to all my classmates with their fire jets next to me whenever they open google. I’m obviously not spreading hate on windows, I fully understand that Mac OS isn’t there yet, but my experience has been absolutely amazing, I went from considering of getting another laptop just for the rending programs to now using my MacBook without the need for another laptop, I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a laptop, especially especially if you have other apple products because the smoothness of the work becomes stupendous, having airdrop between the devices has saved me so much time, or even my iCloud being so seemingly connected with everything, it’s been quite pleasant, and the best thing so far, 0 absolutely 0 crashes and 0 lost work which has fucked me up so bad on the first year!💔

Is awesome to see an architect opinion on this taking in count the actual programs that we use!

Hi Dami, as an architect myself, agree with you all the way. I already purchased the M1 air and still keeping my windows laptops for apps which doesn't run in macos (revit purposes). To me the M1 air is a joy at itself. It is portable and strong enough for my day to day mobile work such as designing in sketchup and acad on site (slim profile and it's battery endurance is a God send), it blazingly fast and never get any issue even if it's not running native in M1.

Yeah! The design is a important part of the product, specially, when applied to the 10 principles of good design!!

I am an architect and I've been using mac devices for 6 years now. I cant change. Really. The power of the design is a really strong thing.
I said a million times that if I need I would do bootcamp, it was never necessary.
I think I work just great with the mac system for architecture.

I’m in hs and I am taking architecture. I am learning revit and it’s a great software but it’s only on the pc. My school helped us set up virtual PCs and it’s the first time I used windows again after so many years with my MacBook. Honestly I thought I was biased before but now I’m sure that I’m not much of a pc fan. It’s so nice to know that they might make a Mac compatible software, hopefully it comes out before college so I don’t hv to get another computer just for revit because no way I’m giving up my MacBook.

I scoured the internet for this specific video a year ago and am SO thankful that someone made it and so well too! The visuals helped me understand how the software/hardware... you know what I mean, the specs and limitations. You broke down the important bits very well for me. For a intro student who desperately needs a reason not to buy/definitely buy a MacBook, it was really helpful!

Revit for macOS in a native environment will be a game changer let’s hope Autodesk gives it to us

Ohhh good, you saved me time, as an architect myself, I’m hesitating on moving to M1 since we’re so used to intel and windows for the softwares... but would like to try it out. I also don’t want to bootcamp. Hopefully, autodesk will be more compatible in the future

Virtual Machines are something will be available for M1, it’s just a work in progress for Parallel and qemu, SSFF in the best future you will be able to run windows for arm and windows for intel, being the last one a slower version because of the emulation required

As an Civil designer engineer I have to say that, due to it's incompatibility with many engineer softwares it's not the favorite laptop for engineers. For example Tekla and many other engineering doesn't run on macbook pro.🤔
