i bet if davinci just made a step for photo bulk editing they would destoy lightroom and get everybody off adobe, you basically have photoshop in the same program and can edit video as well, it would be a legendary move

Something about the under-the-hood maths in DR just feels more solid than in traditional photo grading programs. Blackmagic certainly knows color science. Also, you can use split screen to match to a grade you like! Also also, contrast pivot!

Nice. I think more people should know about how robust Resolve is. It's nuts you can do this much work inside of it.

Well just like adding nodes in DR, you can add masks on the whole image in LR and for example increase the saturation more, and if you want even more you can duplicate the mask...and so on.

For rendering you can just go to the color tab, grab a still, and export that still as an image rather than go through all the timeline junk.

I wish Blackmagic Design came out with a dedicated photo editor. The grading tools and node-based workflow are the truth. Linear layers like in lightroom or photoshop are clunky and IMO there’s no good reason for this at all.

I do do sometimes grade my timelapse photographs in DR17. Deflicker remove the flickering it comes from the shutter count. Dust removal eliminates flying bird’s. And of curse the power of color grading in DR. Also I can export my 10k photographs as 8K Timelapse Video.

Thank you for the nice video.

This video together with the discussions here gave me the confidence to go ahead.

As I primarily use Fujifilm, and both RAF or the converted DNG are not recognised by Davinci Resolve. Luckily PNG works just fine.

I convert the RAW images with fuji’s film style in CaptureOne (for Fujifilm) and then import to DR 18. Supposedly this or a similar technique should also work for Sony and Panasonic.

I've been doing this for a few years and the designers in the office have mocked me for it. Turns out I was right :)
I use the Grab a Still function in the Color page and then export all the stills I want from the Gallery as PNG's

This video and all the comments are really helpful! Thanks man! For me the biggest factor would be free (DR) vs. subscription (Lightroom) if I am not wrong.

I use DR for film vfx. I've been trying to use it for photo editing for a few days but the problem is that DR doesn't import the .raf files from my Fujii. I tried to convert them with Adobe DNG but the created dngs are not imported into DR. Only way is to convert .raf to 16bit png and use Aces space. It's not the best thing because I'm missing all the metadata and it seems that the color interpretation is not optimal.

For optimal results, What render settings do you use to export a photo?

Exporting in r solve is quicker if you just "grab stills" however there aren't much export settings for that function

Informative and very funny. Pacing is great, right to the point, glad you didn't describe what your cat did this morning. Please do some on color grading for dummies like me. Thanks!

Can't seem to import CR3's into Resolve sadly. DNG's also showing as offline. Was excited for this!

Cool overview, any chance of doing a step be step on this process. It would be nice for us Resolve newbies. Cheers!
