Gave up on commercial flight just before the pandemic when I had to spend a miserable night trying to sleep on the floor in the DEN terminal b/c the airline wouldn't put us up in a local motel room. All b/c of a mechanical issue. And it seems commercial airline travel has only gotten worse. Now retired, I prefer road trips. This from someone who spent a career in the professional aviation field.

Airlines have always sold more seats than actually exist, hoping for no-shows. Similar to rental car companies. It IS a bit worse now though.
