So on the shoelaces ripping, there's a really good skate shoe reviewer named Christian Flores on YouTube who created these laces that are ridiculously durable without negatively affecting my skating at all. They're pretty cheap too I'm pretty sure I got 2 pairs for like 10 bucks on sale and they've lasted me months and have extended the life of multiple shoes I've worn.

didn't see anyone else really saying this but the cinematography in that intro was on point, ik how hard it is to film stuff on your own but i can tell some serious thought and effort went into that intro, not to mention how good you made those tricks look, good stuff👍

I have been skating the Vans Old Skool BMX too. I wanted the old skool look but with the waffle cup sole. It’s a great combo of vulc look and cup sole feel. It did take some walking around to break in. Thanks John

I actually loved the Tiago Lemos and landed my first heel flip when I started using these

i have bought 8 pairs of fallen troopers. i love these shoes and on holidays they're 55% off. I have wide feet and i don't have these problems in this shoe... I never tear the shoe laces and I super glue the section i do ollies. I make these shoes last forever. literally i could still skate my previous pair but i just wanted some freshies. I use my previous shoe for the gym.

My favorite shoes to skate in were like Globes from the 2006-2009 era. They were just great.

Some interesting oppinions. I personally love the Tiago 1010, I've learnt so many new tricks since I bought them and they help with my flat feet. I also find that every vans shoe I've owned has been really uncomfortable even when I'm not skating them. I even had a vans shoe rip after one ollie before which is crazy.

Those Asics are alot like soccer shoes. They had the flap and the moved over laces to prevent the ball from hitting them and messing with someone's pass/shot. Pretty smart and surprising it hasn't been used more on skate shoes.

I've definitely been through my phases of shoe madness trying to figure out what works, what doesn't, and why. I still vebture out and try new things, but there's two brands I've found great consistency with...eS and Vans. Vans can be pretty hit and miss with me depending on the model, but they skate like nothing else...unfortunately, sometimes there lineup just doesn't have what I'm looking for. eS on the other hand is unique in a way. The Accel OG is an absolute legend that never disappoints and for me, it's the equivalent of "home", while the rest of their lineup can have some really awesome gems along the way. Unfortunately, anything outside of the Accel models and variants tends to fall out of the lineup pretty often. Still wish they'd make a vulcanized version of the Accel OG...maybe one day lol

John keeps making videos about shoes but I can never take him seriously lol. He has such an extreme difference in preference to me. It's always bugged me how he talks in absolutes here. For me, I can't find a single pair of vans that's felt comfortable to skate in. They just don't fit my foot right. I skate the expensive tiago's he's talking about, and loved them! It lasted longer than any other shoe I'd skated and just felt how I wanted a shoe to feel. My point is that you shouldn't take anyones word like this as gospel. Go to your local shop, try on some shoes, see what feels right. John has wide ass feet that might be super different from yours.

I have been skating Adidas busenitz primarily since getting back into skateboarding. I have the van's chima 2 but they're slightly tighter than I like. I think I'm going to try the eS accel 1.5 next.

John! You should start your own shoe company! Seems like you have a good insight on what improvements could be made on a lot of these shoes. I feel like you could totally design something great.

I can only use etnies Marana based shoes. They feel wide enough for my feet and the have decent protection. I've only used cheap skate shoes in past, so the less material kinda hurts over time.

I still can’t believe you never tried Nike Chrons. I’ve worn Vans since the 80’s I started skateboarding in 87 and tried just about everything through the years and most shoes killed my feet until they were broken in. Nike Chrons was the first shoe I ever bought that didn’t need a “break in” period they felt comfortable right away. I seriously think you’re missing out not giving them a try.

I usually skate Lakai’s but in the past two years I’ve owned two pairs of Jamie Foy’s and your spot on. The shoe feels great and skates amazing but the biggest issue is the laces ripping.

I think one of the best and simplest skate shoes on the market right now is the emerica spanky g6. Just an all round great shoe that isn’t too bulky
