I really agree. I think at the end of the day, use whatever camera you want, and what brings you joy. Especially using it in public, no one recognizes or even knows what a Leica is. There may be 10-20 people a year who will approach you because of it, but the others don’t care.

I just recently bought a Leica D Lux 109 (Leica’s version of a “point and shoot”) and it truly is a phenomenal camera. The quality of the photos are magic, it’s hard to explain, but the proof is in the pictures themselves. I may work my way up to a Q2 M sometime in the future. Enjoy your videos!

I have used many brands of camera's through the decades and finally decided to save up the funds to give a Leica M a go. I recently picked up a (Q typ 116) to add to my M10 kit and these 2 together give me so much joy using them and the images are second to none.

I have only been approached 4-5 times in the past 3 years while out shooting (and I carry one of them everywhere) that someone actually knew or even cared that I was using a Leica.

Love the images Paul..

I just took new/used Leica Q to the local brewery and the young waitress IMMEDIATELY picked up on the elegance of the Leica. She asked, "what is that?" and I immediately felt a little guilty having an expensive device while she was using an old EOS Rebel for school stuff. But then I realized I've used cheap, used cameras on my way up and entry level stuff. Now that I'm established in my career at age 57 I deserve it! No guilt. Leica is magical with a ton of history! I travel and the Q is THE travel camera along with X100V, X70, LX10, and many others. It's a tool but a high-end tool. That's all.

I waited far too long to get a Leica, I should have bought one years ago instead of keeping on keeping on keeping on with the brand I'd used for 20 then I tried a Q2 last year, after a short while my big bag of pro gear many of us feel we 'need' sat unused. I was fortunate to get a Q3 day after launch, part exchanged all my other gear, the Q3 is now my only camera and the freedom it has given me is endless, not to mention the benefit of not hauling a heavy bag around on my old arthritic joints 🙃I now take the photographs I can take and leave the rest to others young and fit enough to handle the weight. One benefit of leaving it so long is that I have reached an age when I don't care what others think of those of us fortunate enough to use a Leica, any negative remarks say more about them than it does about us 🙂. Keep up the good work, Paul.

agreed fully Paul, I've shot many brands and formats over my years. Around a year ago I thought sod it lifes like my legs and hair too short so I bought the Q2. I still use other brands but the Q2 is the one I enjoy most every time.

Great post. I never thought I deserved a Leica and now have 2 and I absolutely love them, an M9 and M9M. Thanks for the validation

Greetings from Japan Paul. As you know, I've owned my used Leica Q2 Monochrom for around 6 months. Your great video sparked this thought...the Q2M hasn't magically made me a better Photographer, it HAS made me "a better me"! Because of its best-in-class ergonomics, it motivates me to use it more. Because of how it's designed without so many function buttons and menu-dive options, it gets out of my way and focuses me on Photography fundamentals. Because of its incredible Monochrome sensor+Summilux f1.7 Lens combination which delivers amazing detail, it pushed me to improve my Lightroom skills in post-processing. Bottom line, I'm happier shooting, I see more when I'm out shooting and more creative in my craft...I'm a better person behind the camera. I do have one regret...not getting it sooner then I did 📷🖤👁‍🗨👍👍‼️

It's not the tool that takes the pictures, it's you.
But if a tool works well and is fun to use
then the results can be better.
Your photos are incredibly good. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Fabulous photos, as always Paul. I was thinking about a Leica Q2/3 but went for the Q2M based on the partly on the desire to own a Leica but also on your explanation of the benefits of the Q2M and the results of course. I certainly don't regret it but at the same time I almost feel guilty for owning one. At least it doesn't have that bright red logo! Thanks for the videos Paul.

Well done! My first Leica was the QP. This was after evolving from Canon and Fujifilm. I was terrified when I got it. I equated Leica's with world renown photographers, the likes of which I can't even hold my own with. However, overtime, I have come to this conclusion; photographing with a Leica, be it film or digital, it is a lifestyle, a choice of simplicity in photographing with a rangefinder. Much like those who rather ride a Harley Davidson, it is their lifestyle.

I couldn't get a Leica in the house lol, my wife knows the cost! I could at a push sell my kit and add some money but then I would be limited in what I could shoot with the Q3. I carry a 16/80 and the 70/300. If I just did street then yes. Loving the shots Paul, cracking.

Paul, this was a great video, BUT those pictures are just astounding – you're honestly one of my favourite photographers now. Would you do an online class? I would love to learn to learn from you but I live all the way over in Malaysia. Do let me know. Truly inspiring

The Q2 is my all day, every day, gone on holiday camera. I love it.
What I like about my M10P and M4 is that I have a digital and a film camera that use the exact same lenses. The M4 is my "monochrome" lol.
What I also like is that I can still send my M4, which is nearly 60 years old, back to Leica for full factory service. Not possible with any other film camera.
It's an investment in "kit" as those in the UK like to say lol, but it all makes me happy.
Cheers from the US 🙂

My Leica M10R Black Paint brings me joy. 🤩 … I was at a workshop recently (photo walk) and not 1 person was talking about cameras. I had a $10, 000 M10R. Someone else had a cheap film plastic camera. Someone else had some little Sony. A Ricoh. I couldn’t keep up. Nobody was talking about their gear.

I don't think people say you don't need a Leica to take good photos isn't generally said in a negative or hurtful sense. I would just say that it means that if you are in the very large boat of people who can't justify/afford a Leica and image quality is your only concern then you can get equal or better photos with a more affordable combination, there is no way it will be as nice but no need to be down or get too wrapped up in GAS, work on the art. The best thing about Leica imo is the lens size/quality, and I would absolutely love a Q3 but my Z7 is doing the job for me fine.
