If you dont have cruise control just grab a fast idle stick

Semi trucks have done this for decades to keep the oil pressure up in your engine so that it has plenty of lubrication instead of just the bare minimum. Extends engine life

It's actually done to keep cylinder temperature up so unburned fuel doesn't leak past the rings getting into the oil. Per Peterbilt owners manual

I did this to a international box truck when I was loading and unloading using the lift gate . My truck lasted longer than any other in the company(10 years ), never had a major issue just regular maintenance. Never knew I was prolonging the life until the mechanic asked me my normal routine with the truck .

Drive a F650 as soon as I put it in park I hit the cruise to speed it up to about 1100 rpm. Pto works better and that illustrious DEF fluid won’t clog anything. Ambulance drivers don’t do this and have to have theirs worked on about every 6 months or so

Yep we use it also to warm up and get the heater pumping in the cold mornings wile going around the trailer and tire check of a morning

My isuzu dmax and navara d40 have their own Button for higher idle. I only use it to preget the engine before driving it. 1 minutes on normal idle, 10 on high idle. I har it mostly at -15c and below

as far as diesel pick ups go I've only been able to get it to work on my dodge, could get it to work on any chevy or fords new and old

I have a switch in my 6.0 I hooked to the battery charge high idle. Kicks it up in idle to charge the batteries also warms it up faster

I bought an apcm module for my 97 7.3ps. That's what wreckers and other pto trucks have for higher rpms.
