I don’t necessarily believe in mermaids but if they do exist they wouldn’t be 1/2 human and 1/2 fish. They would be a distinct species of their own.

Actually they were human, they are the women who had relations with the fallen angels, resulting in the nephillim/ men of renown . They were banished to the sea for those sins.
