The counter-intuitive aspect is decreasing pressure during convergent flow. While velocity increases, one perceives that squeezing a flow into a smaller volume will increase pressure rather than decrease.

I'm a retired mechanical engineer and this is the first time I've every heard of this design. This should have been taught in my Fluids Dynamics class. Thanks.

However this video would have been more convincing if a simple physical model was made to actually validate the animation. Based on the animated version shown, it would have been easy to do with a flat wood bottom piece, a clear plastic top piece, and a wood middle channel piece being water jetted or even hand cut using a scroll saw. Anything can works great when it's computer animated. I want to see how well it preforms for real.

I wouldn't say it is a one way valve, it's more like a restrictive valve. A one way requires flow in only one direction.

I wonder if fluid dynamics shown here translate to dynamics of airflow (gasflow?). Could you design. let's say, Tesla valve systems that move air in HVAC applications to get a desired flow?
