Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger - Which is the best base muscle car?

I take a hard look at the Camaro 1LT, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost, and the Dodge Challenger GT and compare features, mechanical specs, and how they drive. While these cars have the essentially the base level engine offered by the manufacturer, they are by far the most popular trims of their respective lineups. Which one would you rather have?

The challenger can keep this same design for 500yrs and i will never complain. I think they hit the nail on the head with mixing modern and classic.

Love how you do the base model comparison. Really helps out us younger folks. Thanks

Based on looks, I’d choose the Challenger. They all were muscles cars when they were first made but the Mustang became a sports car, the Camaro became your average car you see everywhere, but the Challenger hasn’t really changed at all, that’s why I like it.

it's just something about the challenger I can't resist

The Challenger will always be the best for me. I don't care if it's the slowest and heaviest, It's a very comfortable, spacious and good looking car.

Let's get one thing straight, Mustang is the reason Camaro and Challenger exist.

Having driven them all, I personally feel the ecoboost is the best of the 3. However, they're all super super similar and just comes down to preference. The challenger is definitely the fat slow kid of the group, but still fun to drive with a good power band.

Glad to see someone reviewing the everymans car not just the top trims

I rented an SXT Challenger awhile back and I couldn't believe the power it had; it could definitely get out of its own way! What people don't realize is that today's v6's and inline fours are faster than 90% of yesterday's V8 muscle cars.

Having driven all 3 of these while I worked at a Chevy dealership, the Mustang takes it for me. It’s got good power with a smooth drive. The challenger also has good power and it makes you feel like your fast. The Camaro is fine, but it doesn’t become something special until you start to look at the SS

I appreciate how you stayed objective and didn’t go straight into bashing any of the cars. That being said, mustang for sure

They’re all nice, but Challenger will always be my favorite

Drove mustang's for 30 yrs. When it was time to buy my next car last year, went scat pack WB. Just couldn't get past the new look of the mustang's, only the challenger imo still looks like a muscle car .

i’ll always be a camaro guy. ever since i was a kid, i’ve just loved them. i think it might be my next purchase once my lease is up next year. but don’t get me wrong, i’ve driven my buddy’s tuned up v6 charger and another friends stock challenger and they were both amazing rides. huge, massive, bulky muscle cars and i loved the feel from them.

Excellent video! I just bought a Camaro and man it's fast in its category! Good for daily, even better for quick races! Handling, the feel, the power everything feels so balanced!

Well, The Mustang and Camaro are no longer considered muscle cars, they are considered sports cars. The Challenger is the only 1 that is a true muscle car...

Glad to see someone covering the base model options. I am shopping for what will probably be my last car, and planning to pay cash so every dime counts. Initially, I approached the situation with the idea in mind that I was going to buy a V8 or nothing as I have always driven V8 powered cars. My current car is an 04 Mustang GT with the 2V 4.6L.

Apparently, I’ve been out of the loop for too long because I had no idea that these newer V6 powered cars were putting down the kinds of numbers that they are. A V6 putting down 300+ horsepower is amazing to me. Perhaps to a lot of younger folks these cars aren’t impressive, but to me they are plenty powerful enough for anything I would intend to use them for.

There is a fair to moderate chance that I may go with a slightly older SS or GT just so that I don’t miss the sound of the V8 engine. I definitely want to drive at least the V6 Camaro before I spend my money though. If it runs at least as hard as my current car, I’ll be a buyer.

The challenger is classic and looks great!! Drove a charger with the six and was shocked at how sneaky quick it was. But would not buy one without a hemi!! Also like the GT 5.0 . Good advice to future buyers you really need to just test drive each and compare and figure out what's most important to you and of course $
