Lets keep in mind that the v6 genesis coupe is the top engine available and comes with their best transmission, best available tires. The american v6's are made for the people who can't afford the v8 versions. The tires/transmissions and gearing set ups are made with economy in mind with those cars because the v6 is the standard motor and not the optional. I could have predicted the outcome. Good for Hyundai but no reason to talk shit about the American muscle cars.

Guys, here is the explanation for why this automatic Mustang ran slower than the previous manual mustang. The manual most likely was equipped with the optional 3.31 final drive, while this automatic probably had the 2.73 final drive. That can make a big difference in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, and likely explains the discrepancy. Motortrend's error is not noting or pointing out this fact.

guys guys.. calm down.. the 13.7 quarter mile time by motortrend was obviously done on a manual transmission and this video had the automatic. This video seems about right considering the hyundais automatic transmission is quicker then the jerky manual.

The test is skewed big-time. The V6 engines they put in modern muscle cars aren't designed for racing. They're designed for middle-aged men going through a mid-life crisis. The V8 version of any one of the American cars would rape those rice burners five ways from Sunday.

The only thing is, the Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang with almost six and a half liters of V8 power jammed under the hood, well that's what Muscle Cars are really all about. It's not about how livable they are on a daily basis, with a V6 and Navigation systems. It's about having a ton of power under your right foot and laying 30 yards of black lines down when the lights change, I don't think the Genesis would give that kind of satisfaction if you compared them with the V8's.

Simple explanation to why the Genesis won. The Genesis's Automatic Transmission shifts faster then all the other autos.

@Midan Thank you Midan. Do you really think a final drive ratio can really put the Mustang so far behind the Gensis coupe though? I mean the manual test was pretty conclusive and then once they tested the autos the tables completely turn. I looked at several independent videos and timed them myself with a stop watch and both the Genesis and Mustang came in at 6 seconds, yet in the MT video the auto Genesis destroys everything.

What people don't realize is that the fully loaded v6 price of the Genesis is the same as a fully loaded American v6. Claming that the v8 costs the same is ridiculous considering what you lose when you pay the base mrsp on the v8 models.

@flatblackstrat I believe both those cars were manuals. Also, it's possible either one was equipped with a different tire package. Either item could affect the results.

I read the article, and you guys couldn't get a 3.31 ratio in the Mustang? It's obvious the 2.73 is going to slow it down. If you're doing a performance test, get the best available performance option...

Yea and you can tell at the start of the drag race, the challenger doesn't launch extremely slow, it looked like he gave them an extra second or 2

Seems alot of people are missng the point of this comparison. The V6 versions of the American cars are the ones that most people buy. The Hyundai fits in perfectly with these "pony cars". The fact that it blows them all away, even though its based on a full-size chassis like all the others proves that Hyundai just plain out engineered the Americans.

Wow, Guess people don't realize the difference between auto's and manuals, differences from track to track, humidity, temp, surface prep etc. The only comparisons that should be made are the ones on the same track on the same day.
