He owned and lived in a bus. He travelled around the USA and visited every VA hospital in the nation. He was a great actor and a wonderful human being.

“Whatever it is that women want, I ain’t got it.” Ain’t that the truth.

I’m alone and taking care of my mother. Women have insulted me for this. Very relatable.

What hits hard is that his loneliness hurts him, but seeing his mom sad because of him and being powerless to do anything hurts him far more.

“I don’t wanna get hurt no more”. Yep, that messed with me more than I was expecting

More relatable now than what it was in 1955.

Borgnine is so great in this heartbreaking scene. He deserved the Oscar he received.

A simple yet moving film about ordinary people, not mega-rich models, stock brokers, and influencers. No explosions, no car chases, no CGI, no aliens. Refreshing and, nearly 70 years later, people can still relate to what Borgnine's character was feeling.

Ernest was the nicest man ever. He'd sit and talk to you like you were his best friend. RIP 🙏

The moment my mother died is the moment I knew I would never be genuinely loved by another woman again for the rest of my life.

If they still made them like this, I'd still be going to the movies.

I’m 70 and unfortunately that’s the story of my life. I’ve lived it alone and will end it alone. I’ve helped so many, yet no-one has ever been there for me when I’ve needed help - they just leave me to cope alone. What a sad legacy for someone who has given so much. My epitaph will read: Unwanted, Unloved, Forgotten.

"So I'll die without a son." To be an unmarried man in an Italian family, and not a priest was a mark of shame and worry on that family in those times. Borgnine is brilliant at showing pain in subtle ways. His call to Mary Feeny in the movie and that rejection he conveys is incredibly believable.

Very relatable. To all my fellow lonely people out there, man or woman, I wish you all the best and may you find happiness.

The hardest fact to face in life for some men is the fact they'll never be loved by anyone, never have friends, and no one will ever help you.

This movie is so relatable. I really don’t got what really want.

Good movie! Borgnine deserved the Oscar he got for that performance.

I keep stumbling across this clip. Some men really relate to it, particularly "Whatever it is that women like, I ain't got" - But brothers, you haven't seen the end of the movie. He finds a girl that is sweet and kind to him. He puts aside his self-doubt and pursues her, knowing that he has at last found his chance at happiness. Don't give up on finding your someone. I'm 54 now and I am alone too, and have been for some time. But I have hope. I know I am worth loving. Someday...
