Actually SRV is doing a clockwise strumming technique as well as raking, not a down up he also played using the up motion in is picking hand.

this was one of those songs, much like many of stevies songs that you have to feel it. like there is no being lazy you have to strum that shit like you mean it or it just doesn't sound right at all. I remember when I was younger, watching videos of him play and even early YouTube and until I just did what stevie said and just floor it none of it clicked... SRV is one of the most visceral players I have ever seen, he completely beats that guitar's ass every time he plays it...
