Super cool to see a teaser up now! I'm quite honored to have been picked for an interview with Cracking the Code.

I really enjoy how Troy looks across all genres of guitar playing for insights in to technique. The folks that come here looking to improve their own guitar playing are usually very respectful and open to what musicians of different styles have to offer.
These sessions are meant to possibly improve your technique so that there are fewer barriers to your expression. You don't have to enjoy the genre of music the teacher plays in order to take something valuable from their technique.
Of course this is all obvious, but it bears repeating since all of us from time to time are prejudiced and need to be eternally vigilant in putting those feelings aside.
Lastly, if someone offers an unsolicited opinion in the comments that is worthless, it's probably best to just fight against your inner warrior, ignore it, and let that conversation die on the vine.

I met John and got to jam with him in person. One of the coolest guys on the planet for sure, and his technique, speed, and his musicality as well never ceases to amaze me. I can't wait to see the rest of this!
Returnality
Wow. He is really good two way pick slanter. He have big movements and his slanting is so recognizable.

Hey Troy, you should look into Obsidian C from Keep of Kalessin. That guy has the most insane right hand technique and mixes flamenco guitar with black metal. Would love to see his playing in slow motion.

For a minute I was wondering why my favorite 80s bass funkmeister was on your channel.

He is really, really, really good at what he does! Congratulations for an inspiring look in to his technique!

This is good stuff. I can definitely say that for me personally, my molasses left hand has always been a much bigger challenge than picking or synchronization. Alternate picking, sweeps, and economy picking were regular parts of my practice from the get-go and they're mostly second nature to me. But try as I might, my left hand just hasn't (yet) developed the blistering speed I need to bring it all together.

Yeah the Jason Becker analysis would be awesome he had a lot of different movements to do different passages

Hi Troy, have you ever discussed the effects of tension on speed and how different players deal with it? That's always been the killer for me! Great work as always, keep it up!
MrTKsDaddy
I used to practicing different pick angle and slants during exercises because I noticed it made playing easier and sound better
hairlessdog
He engaged his arm muscle like Rusty Cooley in his Hyperdrive mode! Awesome!!
And thanks Troy for these videos years ago I stumbled on the stuff you talk about but I had no way to label the techniques then eventually I got overwhelmed by all the variables and it got lost

What is that finger stretch band he's using called? I can see it's practical use for building a stretch capacity in the fret hand! You make solid gains while wearing it and once it's off you can stretch even farther with ease! What is it called and where can we buy it?
mrlozano
Cool. Where can I listen to more of his stuff? I agree btw that left hand is harder to master, especially for the kind of stuff he plays.

Can you fix the Marty Friedman interview on Masters in Mechanics? I'm trying to watch it but it's got a static buzz going to it. Have been trying for days... I'm a subscriber btw, not referring to the short YT clip.

you should do joe haley from psycroptic.... what a player
andresludmer
Guy has eccentric equipments, weird pick, hand bandy things and all.

I need one of those finger bands. ones on amazon i hear break easily.
upon research, it might be the “finger spider” pricy finger resistance band like $40.
i got a 3 pack on ebay for less than $10.
6 pounds, 8 pounds, and 11 pounds

You really should have Danny Joe Carter on here. Found out about him from the Yngwie Guitar World magazine in the fastest guitarist section.
