John Taylor is the reason why I started my bass journey. It was only after I realized who his idols and inspirations were and man, I can totally hear their influence in his approach to playing and composition.

Most people just don't care that much about music. There's people who "listen" to music, people who "like" it, people who "love" it, and then people like myself where music is such an important thing, that it takes up a huge part of my life. You tend to find that the people who really care, will find the complexity and beauty and also appreciate the simplicity.

There's more music than ever. So much of it. Men I Trust are a fairly new band that bring beautiful chord choices and melodies, and incredible, complex baselines.

Always been a fan of your bass lines you’ve done a great job with Duran holding up the low end

To each their own but when I listen to I Was Made To Love Her, still to this day goosebumps, and it’s because of the bass line. He never plays the same thing twice. It’s all subtle variations, and it feels alive from start to finish. There’s a place for loops and a place for real spontaneous creativity like that.

John Taylor is one of my greatest inspiration. And He has a good point. People have complicated life and look for lightness and escape in music.

My big problem with music today is the overproduction.

Music is the escape from all of that stuff that's going on. I think a lot of music is simple because people are chasing a hit. If they can come up with something simple and catchy that blows up that's $

Totally agree with what you just said!

I want to hear James Jamerson type bass as well as John Taylor styles.

Tbf, if we're talking about specifically the average person, the music library for the individual is vastly larger today. Back then, the only ones people would remember or even ever hear were the mainly the most popular hits. These days, you can hear every individual song that hits any chart at all. Yeah, if you just look at what's popular, it's simple, but I bet if you look at the individuals library, you would find far more genre diversity and even maybe complexity compared to someone growing up in any other era of music

The people in the comments arguing that music isn't simpler are living in a fantasy world. Of course complex music still exists. But as a whole, music has been dumbed down. It would be easy to prove too. You could just take the top 100 from every month going back to the '60s and analyze how many chords were used and how many notes were in the melody. I guarantee you you would see far greater complexity in earlier eras -- with it peaking in the '70s and falling off drastically after the '90s. There is a greater emphasis on rhythm and sound design as opposed to harmony and melody.

know what cuts to the chase? JT's basslines and ultimate coolness.

He ALMOST had the Mario song at the beginning.

Music's also become something that's constantly in your ear for the average person. Headphones always on, it's almost just noise to drown out the world while doing something else now. For many. But of course there are many complex bands and people who like them, too.

I long for great music not the simple tunes of today but real down to earth blood sweat and feelings music of the 60s to 90s before made bands and bands that lip sing or dont write their own music ...

I’m not sure I agree with him for myself personally because music is an escape and do love to get lost in it’s complexity 😊

He's totally right. But not only nowadays music has no decent bass lines, also listening their rival Depeche Mode I cannot even hear a single bass line, who was the bassist in Depeche Mode?
