With the goal of being the first American male to win the Ultra-Trail Mont Blanc, Jim Walmsley is uprooting his home, his life, and his training routine in hopes of achieving what has never been done before.

American Ultra Trail Runner Jim Walmsley has accomplished so much in his career. Including wins at JFK 50 and the Western States 100, not once, not twice but three times. He set the course record at Western States 100 in 2018 and then went on to better his own record by 21 minutes in 2019. Further, he was named UltraRunner of the year four years in a row.

In partnership with HOKA and UTMB World Series.

"Ultra trail needs more definitions to it: Long hair, little smelly, not as serious, it's ok to walk, and generally it's a party all the way til the last person finishes" Quote of the Year by Jim The Dude Walmsley

Coming back to this video after Jim made history by becoming the first American man to win UTMB... I have no words

I think we all hope that Jim pulls it off, but let's give credit where credit is due. Kilian, Francois and a few other Europeans are damn near unbeatable in that type of terrain. It's absolutely remarkable that they can and do make the podium at every UTMB they enter.

“I just need to become one with the poles” yes Jim! yes! I don’t know that I have ever been more excited for an American male runner at UTMB, excited to watch your training through the summer in France. Best of luck!

I agree - moving to France and running parts of the trail over and over again is a great mental and physical training. I have completed the entire tour the Mt. Blanc and I bumped into many ultra runners who run sections of the trail while training for the UTMB in August. There are also many running events during that time that would be a great form of training - one day on the Swiss side there were actually 5 different running competitions. It is a true paradise for ultra runners. Good luck Jim!

Wow! I was wondering why I've seen all his runs on Strava from France lately. Now I know he's living there. His vert gains in a shorter distance are definitely more than what they were in AZ. Jim is an amazing athlete!

LETS GO I'm excited to be there, dig in my first CCC, and watch you and Killian shred on the course.

It’s so cool how he sets his sights on one event and just digs and digs. We saw him do that with western states and now his name is so synonymous with that race, now he’s going for utmb! Go Jim!

The digging analogy really resonates with me. Running in the high alps where I live is seldom ‘fun’ but is rewarding in the same way as a trench or large movement of earth, rock or dirt by hand. The tole on the body is similar and the determination to battle through arduous backbreaking slog is definitely required.

"So I think winning is not a healthy way of looking at success." good words of wisdom to heed from a two-time WS100 winner!

It’s yours in 2022! - Jim! Written in the stars! - before your came into the World! Man, your focus on UTCT in 2021 made me see that side of you that when you put your heart to it - you have the steely mind to make it stick! - keep shovelling - dig to the end! I give this one to you friend! God’s blessings champ! 🙏🔥🙌🏾

I am sure changing his training ground to the european mountains is gonna benefit him, but competition will be fierce. Exciting for this summer, another epic list of top level runners. Jim vs Kilian, wahoo!!

Really nice video, thank you very much! I would love to see Jim Walmsley win this year but with Kilian Jornet back in town, this is going to be a very very tough one but so exciting to watch for us humble runners. Have fun training in France and enjoy the food/wine!
