With a solid understanding of biology on the small scale under our belts, it's time for the long view - for the next twelve weeks, we'll be learning how the living things that we've studied interact with and influence each other and their environments. Life is powerful, and in order to understand how living systems work, you first have to understand how they originated, developed, and diversified over the past 4.5 billion years of Earth's history. Hang on to your hats as Hank tells us the epic drama that is the history of life on Earth.

1) Archaean & Proterozoic Eons 01:53
a) Protobionts 03:54
b) Prokaryotes 04:18

My Godness! Sir Hank Green aren't you having information overload? I mean, you teach chemistry, ecology, psychology, ecology & biology, based on your videos. I know that these are literally related to one another but you're just SO amazing! Such a God-given intelligence shouldn't be squandered. You and your team made an excellent choice for setting up your youtube channel. It has helped me a lot, thank you!

Can I just say it is really freaking cool that Hank is doing a series on the things I am currently planning on spending the rest of my life doing?

If you didn't come here to learn about the history of life on Earth, and instead came to yell at people for believing evolution, or creationism, then please leave. you are distracting others who want to learn.

would be so cool if they made an entire series focused in detail on the individual eras of earth's history from formation to today.

I am really fascinated by how much and how often the geology and climate has changed since the planet's formation. There happened so much stuff in those millions of years, most documentaries or short episodes don't manage to cover up even a fraction of it.

So many cool ecological stories to tell! I can't wait, and hope to see some of these:
1. Metapopulations + Island Biogeography (+ dwarf elephants)
2. Fig wasps, Ant Acacias, and other fun mutualistic relationships
3. The likelihood of extinction for any given species + the Red Queen Hypothesis
4. Evolution of sex - clones vs. breeders
Please and thank you!

I'm about a month into my second year of ecology BSc and it's brilliant. I thought I'd watch this playlist again just for a bit of indulgence ;)

Personally, I would love a crash course website with quizzes on what you've learned by watching the videos!

Thank you for standing up for your beliefs WITHOUT bashing others. I know too many people seem incapable of doing that.

Awesome everything you do at Crash Course. You've probably heard this already, but a Physics series would be excellent. I've seen world history, chemistry, and i'm starting bio... and it's just excellent. You're doing a true service to the world by creating these. Please keep it up.

I showed this channel to my science teacher, and she showed this to my class today, but I couldn't understand half of it because my class wouldn't shut up. A kid at my table kept talking about how you looked like Justin Bieber(?) and how it was "boring as hell", but I find this rather interesting. I don't think they even give this kind of knowledge a chance. This channel is horribly underrated, and it deserves way more views than it gets. You guys are very entertaining, keep up the great work.

I loved this episode and it gave me an idea. You guys should consider doing a Crash Course Paleontology. It could work like a cross between History and Ecology and cover the history of life on earth through the eras.
