I started learning piano when I was 5 and took lessons until I was 12. I'm 40 now and I must say this made the most sense compared to those years of piano classes. Only now I finally understand what was taught in those lessons. It used to be just memorising and practising

If any of you had trouble understanding this video or missed a tiny detail, feel free to look through my notes, it should contain everything included in the video; with some additional things I wrote down.


Notes:
White - 7 (Letters of the Alphabet: C, D, E, F, G, A, B)
Black - 5
= 12 Notes

Sharp, Natural and Flat Symbols:
# (♯) = Sharp
♮ = Natural
b (♭) = Flat

C Group:
C, D, E

F Group:
F, G, A, B

Each Black Note Has Two Names.

1. Sharp = Above (eg. Black Note to right of C is C Sharp)
2. Flat = Below (eg. Black note to left of D is D Flat)

Intervals are two notes, or the distance between to notes.

Order of Intervals by Wideness:
minor 2nd - 2 Notes Inside. (eg. C+C#)
Major 2nd - 2 Notes Inside. (eg. C+D)

minor 3rd - 3 Notes Inside. (eg. C+D#)
Major 3rd - 3 Notes Inside. (eg. C+E)

Chords (or Triad) = 3 (or more) notes.

Major Chord = Major 3rd + minor 3rd (eg. C+E+G = C Major)
minor Chord = minor 3rd + Major 3rd (eg. C+D#+G= C Minor)

Examples:
F# Major Triad = F#+A#+C#
A Major Chord = A+C#+E
A Major Chord = A+C+E

3 Inversions of C Major Chord:
C+E+G, E+G+C, G+C+E

A chord progression is a group of chords.

Example of Chord Progression:
C, G, Am*, F
*m = Minor

Play Chords in Different Inversions for Smoother Sound. This is called Voice Leading.

C Major G Major A minor F Major
C ➘ G ➙ A F
E ➘ B ➙ C ➚ A
G D ➙ E ➚ C

Underlined/Circled = Notes that are common with the next chord. (eg. C Major has a G, and G Major also has a G.)

Figure out chords, draw out letters, circle common letters, draw arrows pointing.

Rhythm is essentially the timing of all the notes that we have to play in a piece or scale.

Rhythm Pattern:
C G Am F
1, 2, 3, 4 | 1, 2, 3, 4 | 1, 2, 3, 4 | 1, 2, 3, 4

(Play chords in this rhythm while you hold down the root note of said chord.)
