For solving laplace of cos^2(at) you should have used +ve sign, there is no negative in it.

Are you just checking for convergence for the Laplace transform of 1 and cos(2at) generally, or is there something specific about this problem that requires you to check for convergence even if you already know each of those transforms converge?
