Making an Autumn Dress - 1950s inspired

Whilst the rest of the world feels like they are entering Spring, here in Australia (and the rest of the Southern Hemisphere) are entering Autumn.
And whilst our American friends call it Fall, I love the cross over from Summer to Autumn... mostly because there is a promise of cooling weather.

To celebrate the coming of the new season, I made this 1950s inspired fall dress taking inspiration from real vintage patterns.
(Also no lie, I LOVE the 1950s silhouette so be ready to see more inspired looks!)

I have absolutely ironed away my lines, before! Little known quirk of (most) heat erasable pens...if the ink gets cold enough, it reappears. Should you have that issue again, try popping your fabric in the freezer for an hour or so. Most of the time, it will come back and can be ironed away again, later. I realize that information is a day late and a dollar short, so to speak. The finished dress is pretty, and that purple is stunning on you! Have a blessed week!

I live in the northern hemisphere and when I read the title I thought you were just randomly making an autumn dress in spring, and that seemed perfectly normal to me for some reason.

Yes I want to know how to make a circle skirt.

I need to get myself some of that Heat n Bond Ultra! Didn't know there was one strong enough for appliques w/o sewing around the edges (aside from HTV, but I consider that in a different category).

Watching this when I really should be sleeping. Evidence? My name is Lacy and when you said “say ‘hello’ Lacy.” I said hello. As instructed. 🤦‍♂️

This was a fun video my gosh, the tone of your voice when you realized your mistake was so relatable! Also makes me miss using heat n bond. Maybe next project.

I have never related to someone as quickly in a video than this. That ''oh noooo'' in the first 5 seconds is such a me mistake XD Loving the dress and those colours!! it came out so beautiful. I actually bought some fabric with embroidered flowers on one edge from a destash group to make a ''spring'' 50s vintage inspired dress, so this dress of yours is 100% making me stare at my fabric right now

Great colours. I would adore knowing how to make a circle skirt. Congrats on having your own company!! Hello, Lacey! Oh those sleevils. Taffeta's face... "Mum, why did you kick my crocodile?" The tie in between the sleeve cuff and the belt is great. Love the maple leaves. How Canadian of you 😁🍁 It's so swirly. Looks amazing! Thanks for another wonderfully fun video and it is a wonderful autumn dress. Take care.

Fabulous video and wonderful look. And I sympathise with you entirely regarding the saga of the inconveniently empty spool.

i saw on a buy/sell/trade group the other day a bag of vintage notions and tools etc and it included a booklet from the US dept. of agriculture 1954, instructions for making a woman's day dress. i was so tempted to buy it, but i already have too much crap and nowhere to put it.

Lovely. That purple is just... wow. Thanks for the entertainment while I put duck tape on the ends of boning for a corset.

Would love if you did a circle skirt video. If you could explain splitting it into panels aswell that would be amazing! ☺️

It’s a look for me and my season.
Just kidding. When your name is Autumn, you can do that.
