For some reason a few years back I kept buying extra copies of the Daredevil book. I always liked Electra so wanted her first appearance. I was buying high grades copies for about $50.

Patience by chance worked on my recent FF 52 pickup. Late 2021 auction win on lower presentable copy turned out to be non delivery, so funds returned. Picked up Better looking copy same budget 8 months later.

I bought Batman 251 6 yrs ago from an auction on ebay. I paid $170 and it was at a VF. Neal Adams has an awesome artwork. He made Joker much darker compare the early versions. Hopefully i'll get this pressed and graded and maybe it could be VF/NM instead of a VF.

In the case of Ghost Rider it's people seeking alternatives to Spotlight #5 because it's pricey as hell, most working class folks can't afford to toss out the kind of money it takes to own one & don't have the time or resources to track down a raw copy, learn how to clean & press it, & send it to CGC themselves 🤷 they want an important issue to the character, & the first solo issue is their next best option.

Daredevil is going up because it's just a classic cover & people are getting it for the cover art. I don't think every huge leap in price is due to MCU speculation or a response to anything happening in-universe. Sometimes people just catch on to or come to a new appreciation for old art, & the style or depiction becomes popular.

X-Men #9 could quite simply be because of the X-Men vs. Avengers first meeting. I'd say the 1980s miniseries has potential, as well, especially as more people who collect as a hobby (not as an investment) start looking for cool key issues that could have some bearing on mutants appearing in the MCU on an Avengers title.

X-Men #9 is one of those lesser-traded keys that _can_ be obtained by most hobbyists if they really want it, but often they'd rather buy 3-4 other books they can get at far lower prices than chase the 1 big Silver or Gold Age book.

I can't really comment on Batman because I know next to nothing about the character (I know, I know, when it comes to DC I stick to Jack Kirby's stuff & Wonder Woman mostly -- because I love bondage covers 🤷 but whatever).

Also that Spider-Man is such a badass but divisive cover 😆 people gonna argue over that one until the end of time.

Anyway, I think it's easier right now to sell 10 $100-200 books than it is to sell a single $1, 000 book for most of us small business guys/private sellers. It's just the way things are right now.

in the early '90's, I bought a beautiful copy of batman 251 for $10. Neal Adams was at the New York shows regularly, and I had him sign it. definitely in my top 10 books. Pricing today seems insane; we never imagined common books selling for 4 figures and higher.

Great video! Which of these books would you recommend buying if you could find it under fmv?

Catching up on some videos that I missed, my favorites are these on the trends in prices. My comic investing strategy was to buy what I liked, in the highest grade possible and hold forever.

The results on some of these are staggering. I have most of the ones in this video, unfortunately I’m missing the Batman book. I got 3 copies of Daredevil #168 (2 direct & 1 newsstand) when the Jennifer Garner movie came out back in 2003. They were incredibly cheap back then, don’t think I paid more than $50.

About 20 years ago I got a very high grade ASM #31 for about $250. It always seemed undervalued to me. It has 2 different factors going for it. All early Spidey books have been great investments in general and there’s added significance now because of Spider-Gwen. I expect a 9.2 or maybe a 9.4, after a press. I’d be relatively disappointed with a 9.0. Still a great gain in any case but this book looks incredible.

I paid about the same for my ASM #129. Lots of key books have increased in value by 20-30x or more over the last 20 years. Only a handful of stocks (Apple, Amazon & Google) have done the same.

I need to finally get these pressed & graded so I know exactly where I stand. Not sure how soon I’ll sell but if I never do, it’ll make things easier for those who do after I’m gone.

Back in the early days of CGC I had my Batman #251 slabbed. It came back a 9.6 and I sold it for about $600. That's one I sure wish I had back! At least I have held onto my Spidey #31. Haven't slabbed it yet but it's an easy 9.0.

I wonder why some books are going up even through there's no word on these characters. Maybe people know something we don't? 🤔

I'm kinda hoping that Batman 251 drops a bit. I want to get my hands on one but just can't justify the prices right now.

Another great analysis...can't imagine how a new collector now could even consider being a completist (that's a terrible thing to be, ask me how I know). Happy 4th!
