Is Ashley Williams the worst character in Mass Effect?

My thoughts on Ashley Williams through my Mass Effect journey. Do you think she was the worst character in the trilogy? If she's not the worst character then who is? Let me know!

To be fair the first contact war was only 30 years ago in game. Imagine the first time your people met actual Xeno life and the first thing they do is attack your species, slaughtering them. Having relatives who fought through the war and your family being disgraced from the war. I can see why she was racist towards aliens with that kind of background and being overall distrusting.

Ashley's not as bad as some say; she doesn't seem like a xenophobe, unlike the Terra Firma people or Cerberus. She's distrustful of the Citadel Council races' *governments*, believing that they'll use Humanity as a disposable shield if they need to... and ME3 kinda proves her right. But with average alien people? She's fine with them. She knows little about all the other races, but she doesn't hate on people you meet; she gets on just fine with everyone in the party, except for Liara.

I tell people she is the worst and I agree if you leave her to die on Virmire and never see her turn it around in ME3.
I think they needed to show that humanity were "new" to the rest of the galaxy and that first contact did not go well at all between them and everyone else. I do think they went a little overboard with her. Especially by comparison to the other human characters who seemingly don't care at all or if they did they did not bring it up unless you directly spoke to them. So she just felt so heavy on the hate by comparison and stood out.

The worst character for me is Javik yeah I get he's the last of his kind and sure he'd be depressed about it but God he's such a jerk always being mean to everyone and just bringing down the mood all the time. Such a cynical bastard

Once i figured out you can romance Tali in 2 and 3 I've always sacrificed ashley on virmire. I always play soldier, i dont need another soldierman with big gun squadmate, inferno grenades and the marksman ability you get from her in 3 aren't that good, and once again massive xenophobe.

Ashley is just idiotic-xenophobic but at least she got decent character growth in ME3.
Jacob... Disaster character - Hypocrite, unloyal, gives bad advices and is spitting image of his father but don't even realize it.

Omg yes, I abandoned me3 because I made the mistake of romancing Ashley in 1 and carrying that savefile all the way to 3. She was so annoying I switched to a different game and never looked back.

Ashley makes some good points in ME 1 about how each species is going to look out for itself first. To back this up we see this in play in ME3.

Now regarding “racism” towards other species she has a reason for that due to her family background and how she was raised. This is true for most all racists in real life in that the social economic situation they grew up in can create racist tendencies.

In terms of game play, in ME1 if I am not a soldier, vanguard or infiltrator then Ash is a good teammate, especially if you’re going to kill off Wrex.

In ME3 if you are still using the same class Ash is useful when fight the Geth due to disrupter ammo.

She's definitely not the worst character. At all. I consider her the best human companion in ME1 and one of the most believable characters. Kaiden is the worst IMO.

If your convinced Ash is the worst because you think her attitude towards aliens is bad then Wrex should never make it off Virmire and Javik is the one to be put in the airlock. The Council should never be rescued and the Krogan deserve no sympathy whatsoever with the Batarians being the only ones lower on pecking order. Part of the games writing is that the humans are the new guys and get treated like shit cause of all the xenophobic aliens, Cause so many other sci-fi stories have humans in charge. Ash is right about operational security when asking her Co about bringing the aliens on board. ME3 proves she's at least 90% right about alien loyalty towards humans. Her occasional comments about some aliens on the Citidel and their cultures seems to be just ignorance from lack of experience.

By the way, you haven't played this game, but Liam from ME Andromeda is the worst.
