This is the best advice I can give you.

Influence is cool, copying isn't. Today I teach you how to separate the two... Or at least how I am.

Originality is impossible but being yourself is 100% achievable.

Great video and great points you make. For all of you out there who get pointed at with words like "you're a bit like..." or "you're a copy of", don't worry about it. The best started with a base or a reference. It's a bit like Italian restaurants; where I live there are a ton. Most of the things they do and have are the same, but the gnocchi just tastes that bit better at that one place. Keep at it and you'll find your own voice.

Lol I remember when people would comment that I would copy Casey Neistat because the music choice was very similar. The funny thing is certain music tracks I'd use first but because he has more subs people automatically give him authority.

This is amazing!! As a beginner in filmmaking and photography, I know how discouraging it is when someone comment that we're copycats. I didn't go to film school or anything and so I learn from people like SamKolder and PeterMckinnon by watching their videos. You really nailed this, Zach! Well said. I think that, especially as someone newer to actually making vlogs, it's really difficult to be entirely "original." It's about taking your own unique content and finding a genre, then tweaking and innovating from there. But it's really difficult to innovate on something without first building a foundation from something else. Glad I found this video in my recommendations... subbed!
