You Still Have a Chance to Be Very Original

The key to originality doesn't lie in seeking out new ideas and experiences, but rather in examining our own neglected thoughts.

FURTHER READING

“The problem with libraries is that they can be so large, impressive, and filled with knowledge that they unwittingly embed in us an idea that everything worth registering, everything valuable and true, must lie ‘out there’, must already have been classed on a shelf with an index number to await our discovery the moment we cease to be so preoccupied with ourselves…”

“Geniuses don’t have thoughts that are, in the end, so different from our own. They have simply had the confidence to take them seriously” YES

I say don't worry about doing something original, just do something great and beautiful. The desire to be original is like the desire to stand out, to be popular in some sense. Just be you, even if there's a million others like you; there's more happiness and acceptance this way. Originality grows naturally.

Genius also has the ability to articulate their thoughts with a deeper depth than practically anyone else - it's what makes them a genius.
I may have the same thought as a genius, but their thinking would be unfathomably more complex than any I ever could muster.

Genius is knowledge, originality, ability to draw unexpected yet striking connections, sensitivity and laser-sharp vision. Confidence is a plus.

Once in a while The School of Life just publishes videos that make me feel like they're stalking me for what it's exactly what I need.

This video just tore at my soul, especially with its animation. It's like my childhood is trying to heal itself and I dunno if it has anything to do with my past as a kid or as a teenager. Thank you for this video.

Thank you for your words of affirmation, I really needed to hear them today. It's better to be a first rate version of yourself, then a second rate copy of someone else.

Thank you for the confidence boost. Never looked at it this way. We have the same thoughts they have more confidence and study their ideas more. Thank you

This has truth. Remember people are moving everyday, taking the world around us in visual and auditory cues. If we just kept a journal each day how much information we will have. Of course we can’t catch everything but we can compile more information individually than Google.

I’ve always felt this although humbly (which is maybe the point said here). I know I’m unique and intelligent and have lots to offer the world that no one else does. I just have a hard time deciding what that should be and the proper avenue. I also have no real desire for fame or all eyes on me, so that combined with some lack of ego and even confidence, keeps me from making a real plan and moving forward. Because I actually do know my true potential is not remotely what I’ve done, and I’ve already done a lot.

I find that, as a musician (and perhaps in general), I find my thoughts are more inclined towards originality when I'm not trying to make the inevitable comparison that defines "original." If you've never seen a specific movie, but end up writing that movie essentially word for word, your thoughts are still original. If a new emotion comes through in said piece, then that feeling is original, even if we say that the author of this replica movie was actually copying. The familiarity and intimacy of emotions is why original creative expression will never die.

This bookaholic used to hang out at the Pierpont Morgan Library on my lunch hour because I worked across the street as a fashion illustrator for Simplicity Pattern Co many moons ago. Many original manuscripts there and a secret escape tunnel Morgan used! I also find the famous Beaux Arts designed NY Public Library which is also gorgeous another popular hangout! What's even more impressive is that in the 1800s, that was the site of the magnificient Croton Reservoir, a massive Egyptian temple like structure with a promonade around the top! It's said that America's first short story writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe used to walk there! That also means that beautiful Bryant Park would have been under water back then along where the library stands today. The photos of it are really haunting looking and one can still see the stone foundation of it in the basement of the library. My late godfather worked in periodicals there, so that was also why I saw the reservoir's foundation. Old New York City history is fascinating and Dover Publications has the best books with all the old photos of life back in the "Big Apple", since the 19th century through the 1920s, and 30s etc. Do check them out, fun to look at all of them! Hard to be original as there's always someone else with a similar idea, invention! And many great artists/writers/composers draw inspiration from other artists/writers/composers. C'est la vie!

His proclivity to explore is that of an ancient explorer from a principality, from circa bce. Yet his tendency of benevolence is that of an ancient explorer from a municipality from circa ad. Nonetheless, shall your creative prowess prosper, and the tides of history always in your favour.
