What Was The Largest Army The Romans Faced

Before we continue, please note this version of history was written by the Romans themselves.

At the Catalonian fields, 451 ce 50 000 roman legionaries and 100 000 Visigoths faced off against a barbarian horde.

This horde was a million strong and comprised of horse-riding Huns and savage Germanic barbarians led by none other than Attila the Hun himself.

No conflicts the Romans had ever endured would compare to the bloodbath which followed.

If I faced 100k barbarian horde I’d write it as 1million too. Theres no way you can feed 1 million barbarians…

Thank god it was not written by Herodotus, if it was, then it would be 100 vs 1 Million.

For anyone seeing this, at this time Rome didn’t deploy legionaries as we know them or even Legions at all anymore. Still though the WRE army was the best in the world. It was just usually extremely small and fighting itself in civil war that crippled the economy which meant they wouldn’t get payed, which meant they wouldn’t fight.

The actual battle statistics should be noted to imply a total number of 1.2 billion barbarians against 300~ Romans but it was still an important battle.

I was one of the horses. The huns ever boastful didn't stand a chance against the 17 legionsries before them.

No one at that time would be able to count that many men and usually stories like that were (often purposefully) exaggerated by the winners.

I just scrolled from the post before from another history account that talked about this exact event in the exact words this account described it, genuinely like a script 😂

False, the biggest threat to the Roman’s was Hannibal. Granted he was killed in battle, but Rome legit feared this guy.
