I think some of the Watchers who only went down but didn’t choose a wife and did not choose to share forbidden knowledge may have had lighter penalties. God told you to watch from a certain distance and you chose to watch from a closer range than God directed and because you wanted to get that close, now you have to be one of them now. I wonder if Nephilim is hyperbole in a negative sense. I doubt Semitic languages intend a literal gigantic beast, as that would be hyperbolic and symbolic of the soul. But just tall humans with wisdom and power.
In Genesis they were "heroes of old, men of renown" so they should be interpreted as magical sons of the angels. More like Hercules. Not a Titan. or demon.
Which is the path you interpreted.
Most people think mindless beast.
Others then magical people.
The Jews think they were humans brought by polygamous Cain descended men.
