What is Tiki-Taka?

Tiki-taka in its simplest form is a style based on retaining and circulating possession of the ball; at its best, it generates stunning movement, fluidity, and incisive attacking football of great skill; at its worst, it can be sterile and tedious.

Pep Guardiola's Barça was the best football I've ever seen in my life! They were glorious!

When talking about well known teams inspired by tiki-taka I think you should also mention the german national squad around the time they won the world cup up until the world cup in russia. They might have played the style to the extreme as spain or barca did but they too had a strong focus on possession based football.

tiki taka: make the ball do the work...

certainly a very attractive style and at Spain/Barcelona's peak it was unplayable. Barcelona could do this because a) their players were/are world class and as is mentioned it was institutionalised perhaps at La Masia. It takes very skilful, technical players to implement this style effectively. But special mention should go to Messi in this team for what he creates particularly in the final third and goals he scores. He stands out even amongst great team mates. It has since influenced football in all corners of the globe, from the stadium down to the local park. I believe it's influence even transcended football into other sports. A common trap for copycats is ""passing the ball but not hurting us"". Over time teams have learned to fight it. Stay compact, organise defence, hit them on the counter where they are often exposed as this style meant many players were in advanced positions. Recently Sarri's Napoli played some beautiful tiki taka type foobtall. Guardiola's grid theory shows that there is more to this though than just simply pass and move...

Fernando Torres and David Villa weren't false 9s at all, and were crucial to Spain's success. In fact, at their peak they played together for Spain. The false 9 became later when Spain lacked such good forwards as those two.

You guys at Tifo should definitely do a video about the modern football counters for Tiki-Taka!

If you're mentioning "total football" in your video you gotta also mention Rinus Michels, he invented it, while Cruyff orchestrated it on field.

The problem with tiki taka (and total football) is you need exceptional players to carry out this style of football, if you try it with average players it's a disaster

...In conclusion, you must have Iniesta, Xavi and Messi to complete the real Tiki-Taka.

2008-2012 was an amazing time to be a Barca fan. I had been a fan since 2002 just before Ronaldinho was signed and it has been a pleasure to see the blaugrana ascend the way they did. Conversely the Rosell/Bartomeu era has been the complete opposite. Watching all of that glory turn to dust under a stewardship that has turned its back on Cruyff and all the values he brought has been difficult. I really hope a new club president can be brought in who will bring back those values which brought Barca to the pinnacle of the game.

We need a video about how tika taka was eventually overcome by various teams, especially bayern.

Let’s be honest. Tiki taka made football more fun to watch. The influence is everywhere today even in youth.

Since he recently passed away, maybe you guys could honor him and do a video on Radomir Antic, one of the two men who managed Atletico, Barcelona and Real Madrid. He was most successful at Atleti but his work at Barcelona is underrated as he set the frame for the team that will dominate in years to come.

For tiki taka you need three players Messi, iniesta and xavi.

Disappointing lack of mention of Dani Alves and Sergio Busquets who were both integral to Guardiola’s Barca side. People always talk about the brilliance of Xavi, Messi and Iniesta but rarely speak about how Guardiola also had arguably the greatest two way fullback of all time at his disposal as well.
