An interesting tidbit about 9:111 that many people probably don't know... The verse claims that the Injil and the Torah contain similar violent verses. But as we all know, the New Testament has no such commands to commit jihad. The tafsir Ma'arif recognized this contradiction, so he used the excuse that the Gospel must have been corrupted AFTER mhmd lived.

"As for the popular assumption that there is no injunction of Jihad in the Injil, it is possible that, as part of the changes made by people who came later, the injunctions of Jihad were expunged."

And this leaves Ma'arif in a very compromising position because to argue that the Gospel was corrupted AFTER mhmd is for all practical purposes impossible. Such a corruption would require changing thousands of manuscripts from many distant nations, in many languages, all at the same time, without anyone noticing.
