There are some weird web browsers out there and this certainly fits into that group, basically browsh is a graphical text based browser designed to but run on a server and SSHed into by people who's personal connections are too slow to reasonably use the internet.

I'm running a k8s demo where the Linux VM clustered pair is set up in NAT mode and doesn't appear to be capable to raise an x display on the containing host, so browsh is the perfect solution for this case since part of the k8s training is to browse a locally served website.

damn. was looking for something like this for a while. Does it work well in tty's as well? or does it only work in emulated terminals? Also how is the resource usage compared to other browsers ? If it works in tty then I'm dropping qutebrowser rn.

A video from 2015 compared RAM on a lot of browsers and W3m and Lynx were under 4 (mb i think), while FF was 107, Vivaldi 200, and Chromium was 535. What is RAM for browsh?

I've tried it because I tend to use cheap hardware, but is sort of the same like GUI Firefox in terms of hardware usage (of course... I could have guessed it). Some times I use terminal based browsers when I want to find text based stuff in the internet (like... meaning of words, some advice about stuff... I don't know... cook reciepes? that's a lot, anyway)... and I don't need the graphics at all (in fact, it's better to have only the text); not only I got far less resources drain (like... 1% CPU vs. 30% at least), but also the donwloading speed is much, much faster.
But not everything is perfect... like, when a reddit post has a screenshot, I can't see it well. W3m has image support but that only works with certain configuration in some terminals (so far, I only made it work in urxvt with the default font and font size), and I think it lacks a proper interface for using it in 2021.
It feels like someone could improve it a lot... I'm noy a programmer at all, I have to browse several times (in w3m, yes) whenever I want to do a simple shell script. So... I'll leave this here, maybe someone reads this and feels inspired to do it...

Unfortunately, the browser does not support GPM (Mouse) in pure TTY mode (that is, without running an X server) and the images could have been displayed pixel-based. In TTY mode, you really can't see anything properly. So, the browser is unfortunately useless for me.

Not sure if i'm doing this wrong, but in the TTY everything just looks like muddled garbage. Guess I'll just stick to Links when I'm using Linu (Linux without X)

How do I get sound running on it? BTW this is really good way for someone whose browsing habit mainly consist of reading materials. I opened android documentations site on this in monochrome while watching your video, it is decently fast and clean for eyes.
