In this lesson, we will learn how to write the equation of a parabola and shift it horizontally left or right along the x-axis.

In order to do this, we discuss what happens to the table of values of a parabola when we shift the x-coordinate. What we find is that with a simple change to the equation, any parabola can be shifted horizontally along the x-axis with a simple change to the equation.

Explanation is excellent but when you put value of Y as zero in those equations you can explain the right shift or left shift easily

This is tricky part when doing function transform. If you plus number to the independent variable/input, you get the plot of the function to the negative direction. It is worth exploring this transform using the basic mapping of a function and the table format is a way crystal clear demonstrate this shift.

It seems easiest to see shift in form ax²+bx+c as b÷2÷a at least for integers. But what do I know.🙂
