It’s not the most glamorous topic to talk about, but for people living with diabetes, it’s a real concern. Foot ulcers can have major complication and can even lead to amputation. It was a scary thought for Richard Raine, losing his big toe.

Bascially, a foot ulcer is generally a worsening choke-off of oxygen to the foot PLUS worsening neuropathy around it, causing it, which can cause permanent damage, necrosis, and eventually--gangrene. Generally this is caused by necrotizing fasciitis or similar flesh-eating diseases....but it can also happen with spinal cord injuries--and almost 100 percent certainty if you have uncontrolled diabetes.
