Can't believe how much I learned from this video. The jig is great, but the measurement technique on the lintel, while obvious once pointed out, escaped my puny brain until now.

I have used so many of your tips and shortcuts. What I like is they aren't tips to do any less quality work, they help you work smarter, more efficiently, and it looks finished and professional. Even if I can't do the job myself, your videos help you know what to look for and what constitutes good work when you hire someone. Thank you!

I like your jig idea . But I highly recommend always wearing safety goggles when using your nailer . I have had them shoot straight backwards at me before . Can always replace a trim boards can't replace your eyeball

Ive been a carpenter for 15 years. Never thought to use a spacer for architraves. One of the best tips I've seen online yet. Ill be using this tomorrow. Top

Thank for the jig. Had about 8 windows and as many doors to trim. I remembered this little jig. Made life a lot easier. Thanks again.

Thanks for the tip. A lot faster than my 'cut long and trim to fit' method.

I'm an Optometrist but love to do woodworking. I've built jewelry boxes, picture frames, tables, and cabinets. I'm never to old to learn new things and I enjoy your show. I just discovered on the internet.

When i nail boards on the edge, always keep my nailer 90 degrees from the surface of the wood underneath that I'm nailing into. So all the inside reveal edges, the end of your nail gun should be pointing towards the oppostite side. That keeps the nail from popping out if it hits a knot. Why? Look at the ends of your nails, they have a chisel point, that runs parallel with the nailer body. so if you have the chisel point 90 degrees from the surface under what you are nailing.... it will turn into the wood instead of turning out through the face of your material.

Hi Paul. Don't know if you remember me. I wrote to you during one of your giveaways. I told you about how I finally picked a career at almost 40yrs old, choosing carpentry. Shortly after starting my 1st union job almost everything I owned was stolen, $12k worth of personal property and my $6k truck. I was an independent contractor before I joined the union and therefore I owned thousands of dollars worth the tools, and I collected many so that I would always have good quality tools that were close enough to the best tool for the job, and I use tools that do multiple things to cut back on the amount of tools I have, such as my collection of 4 in 1 ratcheting wrenches.
I just wanted to let you know that the reason I was able to go through that and not go insane, or harm the people who did it, is my career. What makes my career easier and more enjoyable is learning quickly and as much as I can. It's also always nice when I possitively stand out to journeyman and supers when they see me using tips and tools I've learned from watching your show, especially when they ask me to teach them and ask me where I learned it, which I tell them about your show.
I enjoy watching DIY stuff and yours is one of the best, because not only are they great ideas, but you teach in a very simple way to learn. I never have to replay your videos over and over to figure out what's being taught, etc.
I'm now 5th term and have worked on building my credit and paying off all my depts. Soon I will have a rating in the 700s, and I'll be able to get loans to start purchasing rentals and flippers. I'll continue watching your show as long as you continue teaching me.
Thanks for all your advice.

You can make a tool or you can use a speed square or an adjustable square. The edge that catches the material, depending on make, is 5/16ths or 11/32. Most people who are not in the trades, and many who are can't tell the difference. Always cut molding over the header from long point to long point. The using long point is always more accurate, especially in compound miter cuts.

If you make, I never fail to watch it. I don’t know anyone else that comes up with so many great tips.
Thanks.

You misspoke, I think. The door swinging open or closed has nothing to do with whether or not the jamb is square. However, the hinge side MUST be perfectly plumb in both directions, or the door will swing on it’s own. Plumb, not square. Very important.

Paul, amazing video and demonstration. My son starts carpentry college soon and this trick and tool will help him in the future. He has made the tool and has used it on an internal door frame to practice. Thankyou so much.

Many years ago I used to take a clear piece of birch or maple cut it to 3/4 x 2 x 3 and use a dado set at 1/4" wide by 1/4" deep and cut the piece on all 4 sides. I used hardwood only because I had access, being a carpenter and a cabinetmaker with my own shop. You could do the same with a single blade do 8 cuts instead of 4 and use plywood. It's amazing how ways their are to do the same thing. Enjoy your channel Paul, keep up the good work.
